“Quaint, inviting, comfortable...a little taste of true southern hospitality.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2009

This was our third visit to Eight Gables Inn. We celebrated our belated 12th anniversary and truly enjoyed the serenity and quietness . We were welcomed warmly by the owner and she ( Penelope) made us feel right at home in the beautiful master suite. The staff was very friendly. The breakfasts were delicious and we really enjoyed having the "turn-back service" at days end...with a tasty dessert waiting for us in our room. We especially loved sitting on the wrap-around porch and listening to the sounds of nature and the amazing waterfall feature..........Everything was much like the last time we visited........although the shubbery could use a little extra attention so the beautiful views could be enjoyed more.......and the prices may could be adjusted somewhat to reflect the downturn in this tough economy.....all that said.......i would truly recommend this bed and breakfast and hope to be back again soon...............Thanks to all of the staff for a wonderful stay !!!!

If you are looking to relax, if you want to hear the crickets, loose yourself in the most comfortable beds we have ever experienced outside of home then look no further. Contrary to other comments Penelope trusted us with the care of her home which only served to enhance our enjoyment and stay. We had booked the Inn for two nights and immediately upon arrival decided to stay a third. We arrived late (as we were on motorcycles with another couple) and to our surprise there was a note on the bed which had been turned down, soft music playing and dessert waiting for us in the fridge. The homemade breakfasts were hearty with a consistant southern flair from baked grapefruit, to homemade cinnamon croissants. Every morning was different, exciting and extremely enjoyable. We will be back............

My wife and I have just returned from another visit to one of the most relaxing bed and breakfast inns we have ever stayed at in the U.S.... We have stayed at the Eight Gables Inn in Gatlinburg six times in less than two years because of the staff, location, surroundings and beauty of the inn. You are treated like family by Penny, Judy, Ron and the rest of the staff. They always remember your name and where you are from and ask how the rest of your family is doing. The rooms are spacious and have very comfortable beds and showers. The pricing is competitive without giving up amenities and the location is perfectly placed between Pigeon Forge and The Smokey Mountains in Gatlinburg. The breakfasts are a smorgasboard of healty, yummu and filling delights. We will keep coming to Eight Gables because there service surpasses any other B&B we have satyed at in the U.S..........The Powers Family from nashville

My husband and I wanted a romantic and peaceful place to get away before the birth of our first child. We found that at Eight Gables Inn. The staff was wonderful and extremely accommodating. The room was very clean, had its own thermostat and had a wonderful view. I loved the afternoon tea and evening desserts. One evening the staff even wrapped our evening dessert and left it in our room when they learned we would be out during that time. It is that extra special attention that you wouldn't get anywhere else. We enjoyed the evenings watching the sun go down from the rockers on the porch - it added so much to the relaxation factor. And the breakfast was unbelievable. I ate until I couldn't eat anymore ... it was fantastic. We stayed two nights and were very sad when we had to say goodbye. Overall an excellent B&B that I would recommend to anyone that wants to get away.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Eight Gables Inn located in Gatlinburg, TN. It was our last stop in a 20 day cross country road trip and we were hoping for something extra special to finish off our “trip of a lifetime”. Eight Gables Inn greatly exceeded our expectations. We were lucky enough to get the “owner’s suite”. What a lovely suite with a beautiful four poster bed, gas log fireplace in the sitting area, a dining area where nightly desserts “showed up” for our evening pleasure, a great whirlpool tub, even a walk in closet and our own private back porch with rocking chairs overlooking the back gardens. We enjoyed wonderful breakfasts every morning and the cook would even fix us whatever we wanted if we didn’t care for the breakfast du jour. The staff (especially the cook) was very helpful with sightseeing ideas which led us to places we wouldn’t have found on our own. We so enjoyed our stay at the Eight Gables Inn that we extended it by an extra day so we could relax and be pampered in their wonderful Inn a little bit longer! We would love to go back there next time we are near Gatlinburg.

Pros:
Some of the most comfortable bedding in the area
Tasty breakfast
Wireless internet access
A variety of included treats (evening desserts, afternoon tea)
Independent thermostats (at least in the garden suites)

Cons:
Absentee owner
Lackadaisical staff
No/limited views from some rooms
10% service charge
No good work space (though the laptop-toting business traveler also doesn't seem to be their market)

With 19 guest rooms, an absentee owner, and somewhat lackadaisical (though friendly) staff, the dynamic of Eight Gables was more reminiscent of a nice hotel than a B&B. We were told that the property was on the market, which may have contributed to the sense of benign neglect.

Breakfast was very tasty. The other complimentary snacks were less impressive -- only a single dessert option was set out in the evening, and they ran out of snacks and hot water at the afternoon tea.

We rejected our first room ("Rose", in the main house, with a whirlpool tub awkwardly set in the bedroom itself) because of the strong odor of cat excrement wafting from the crawlspace beneath. (Shouldn't someone from the hotel have noticed that before we did?)

The replacement room ("Daisy", one of the garden suites) had very comfortable bedding and no objectionable odors, but there was no view to speak of -- the back door looked out on a concrete block retaining wall. The garden suites appear to be recently built, which is a mixed bag: the bathroom was shiny, with a separate shower and a huge whirlpool tub, and there was a remote-controlled gas fireplace, but the room lacked character, had very limited natural light, and had poor noise isolation -- we could easily hear footsteps outside. Aside from the odors, both rooms were clean.

I picked Eight Gables because of the quality of the bedding, which seemed hard to find in the area, but the overall experience was unimpressive. I might be back, but not before I try some place else.

This unique inn was such a refreshing find in such a "typical tourist town". The serene atmosphere and luxurious cottage accomadations and wonderful staff were beyond anything else in the area. We have been to this area 20+ times and stayed in chalets, but this experience was a trip changing event. Truly one we'll go back for and hope to share w/ friends.
