Visiting Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, you will see a few Hungry Bear restaurants around. This one, off of 321 is a small space for big appetites. The meats are well respected. Nice smoke ring on the brisket and ribs. The bark on the ribs has a nice chew and the pulled pork is lean.
The sides are good, the beans have almost as much pork in them as beans. The potato salad is not over sauced. Neither is the slaw. The brisket sandwich is great as is the pulled pork. Again, both were lean enough to satisfy my wife and young daughter.
You can eat inside or out, on tables with a roll of paper towels and three sauces: hot, mild, and sweet. The hot sauce has a nice vinegar tang to it and the mild has tons of flavor without the heat. The sweet was my daughter's favorite but was not overly sweet like some honey infused sauces in other places.
We visited twice on our vacation and on the second visit they ran out of ribs and chili. It was only 6 p.m.! It has a good reputation among the locals and for good reason. Definitely stop and order some great 'que.
