“Just Do It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2005

My Husband and I just returned from vacation and while in Gatlinburg went with Vesna on the "Stroll Back In Time" walk. What an interesting 2 1/2 hours! We would never have learned so much on our own or even where to look off the trail for all the things she showed us. It was a great adventure and we are glad we decided to take a chance on it, you should too! Go to the site and pick a walk and go, you won't be sorry!

“Take the kids and go for it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2005

An absolutely fantastic time! Eric was our guide for a 1/2 day trip. The entire hike was filled with learning and excitement as our family proceeded to develop a great appreciation for what the park system has preserved. Our children, ages 9 and 11, were as excited as Christmas morning and didn't notice their tired legs until the last 500 yds.! To do it over again, we would have scheduled another hike the day before we left the area...this one to Clingman's Dome. I would not recommend doing your first hike without a knowledgable guide like these folks...there would be so much you would miss! Bravo!

“great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2005

I have three children, ages 14, 15, 18 and would highly recommend "A WALK THROUGH THE WOODS" . Admittedly my kids weren't overly thrilled to have to "hike", but I really wanted to do more in the smokies than just see the view. After our 2 hour hike, all three of my kids had nothing but positive comments and even enthusiasm (teens enthused about something that doesn't have a cell phone or x-box??? WOW!) I have nothing but praise for our hike and awesome tour guide.

“A Walk in the Woods - Wow! Well Worth It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2004

My family, which includes 4 kids ranging in age from 5 to 18, did the "On Top of Old Smoky" hike offered by A Walk in the Woods on Monday, August 9. Our guide was Vesna, who met us at the Visitors Center and then led us up the parking lot of Clingman's Dome. From there, we hiked a bypass trail to the top of the Lookout Tower, and along the way, it was pure heaven. Vesna showed us so many things in the forest that we would never have noticed on our own - we looked at plants (tasted a few, too!), rocks, bugs, and learned how to tell if a male or female deer left the print that we saw. We observed recent bear scratchings on a tree, as well as deer imprints of where they sleep. We stopped periodically, where Vesna would encourage us all to drink water. She produced some snacks about midway through the hike, and then had my kids break into two teams for a scavenger hunt...they were to look for things such as a feather, something sharp, something square, etc. The kids loved it!
Although the hike was over 2 hours, time flew, and I would highly recommend this company if you visit the Smoky Mountains. You learn a whole new appreciation of the park, and your children can have fun and get educated at the same time! How cool is that?!
