This review is actually a combination of 2 stays. Once in April and once in May.
The first stay was excellent. The second stay was mixed.
For the first stay, we booked a whirlpool room. It was spacious and large. No balcony but it was quite a nice view overlooking a stream. The room was clean and everything was in working order. The second stay, we had a standard room. When we checked into the room, there was dirt over the bedding. We promptly notified the front desk attendant who saw first hand what we were talking about. It appeared the sheet was covered with coffee rinds. He stated, he could not change us to a different room because no other rooms were available despite the fact that we checked in early in the afternoon. To his credit, he did change the bedding, but it was still an uneasy feeling.
We really want to like this hotel. Its the only Marriott property located in Gatlinburg. If you need more than the Fairfield breakfast, there is a pancake house located next door. The miniature golf course on property is a fun course! (not quite as good as Ripleys Old McDonald in Pigeon Forge, but run by the same company)
The location is on the north end of Gatlinburg. It is somewhat of a blessing because traffic isn't bad around the hotel, but unfortunately, the hotel is a bit isolated from the action. From the hotel it is a 10-15 minute walk to downtown Gatlinburg. If you don't want to walk, you can take the Trolley which drops you off right in front of the hotel (just be sure to verify the shuttle times - last shuttle 9PM??)
Hot chocolate and cookies are provided during the evening, which adds a nice touch. Breakfast is standard Fairfield fare and staff do an excellent job of keeping items stocked. There is a small outdoor pool with a waterslide.
So what does this all mean? We're not sure which of our experiences was the norm. We'll certainly give this hotel another try.
