What used to be a grocery store and a general store across the parking lot from each other on the west side of the Parkway just before leaving G'burg and entering the park in Downtown Gatlinburg has been turned into a winery on the left and a general/conveniece store on the right, a vast improvement over the previous businesses at that location.
SCW is one of the five wineries owned by the same people known as the Rocky Top Wine Trail. As with all the wineries, the staff is extremely well trained and knowledgeable not only about their own products but wine in general. They are professional friendly and courteous.
This winery specializes in wines of the muscadine grape, a variety that has taken hold well in Tennessee where altitude replaces latitude for a wine growing climate. Much of the wine made in TN. is muscadine based. Keeping in mind that opinions are like noses, everybody has one, our two favorites here are the Mountain Laurel (southern term for rhodedendrum) a muscadine based wine, and the #1 is the Martha Jane Rose', a semi-sweet red and white muscadine blend.
Like all wineries hereabouts, price per bottle is in the mid-teens with case discounts, and as always tasting is free.
