nothing special. nice resort. friendly people. had a great time for a time share resort with friends. the place was decorated for the holidays already which I was taken aback but nice. the tour was really nice and went with friends who transferred from Williamsburg Va. They fell in love with the Smokey Mt resort and the area, so we decided to go back on an excursion. One thing making the reservations for this was a little daunting becaquse we had to go thru Fl. and Fl. doesn't know what is going on in the Smokey Mts. So some things got screwed up but thanks to our conseierge he straightened most of it out.

Nice location...it's right between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge-close enough to do things, but far enough away so you can avoid the crowds.
The staff was welcoming and helpful from arrival to departure. Our room (a one bedroom deluxe king villa) was beautiful and clean. It faced the forest and had a great walk around balcony.
The onsite restaurant had an okay breakfast buffet. It appeared that a lot of the food was reheated from the day before. It wasn't awful, but expensive considering the quality of food.
We took our daughter to the game room, but unfortunately most of the games were broken, and the machine to get your prizes was also broken. There is nobody around to fix them or to notify, so we had a disappointed daughter.
Probably the worst part was the swimming pool. It had SO MANY people packed in it, and the water was cloudy. One can tell that someone is simply poring in extra chlorine, but this caused my daughter's eyes and skin to burn all night even after a shower. To go to the indoor pool required purchasing expensive tickets, so we passed.
I loved the rooms, staff and location, but the amenities here leave a lot to be desired.

Whether you are a senior or have a family with children there is something for everyone's delight. My husband and I are retired and sought out some of the activities on site and were in easy driving distance to the local shopping, shows and mountain drives. The staff is friendly and the food in the on-site restaurant is very good and affordable. We chose to cook most of the time and availed ourselves of the free barbecue grill next to our place. The place was clean and there was a tidy-up and towel exchange mid-week. That may be for timeshare owners only (not sure). The water park is included in your stay and when my grandkids come they are thrilled to go there.

We were here with a group for a family wedding, so we didn't choose this resort. We'd also read the reviews here so our expectations weren't very high....

We stayed in the newest building (opened in June 2013) and our room was very nice and included a washer/dryer and full kitchen, plenty of towels in the bathroom -- however, NO DAILY MAID SERVICE, had to call several times for light bulbs to be replaced inside and outside (which they did quickly and cheerfully). Also, the jacuzzi tub, while very nice, was located in the master bedroom, NOT the bath, which was a little awkward to say the least. In addition, there was never enough hot water available to fill the tub more than halfway, which defeats the purpose. And despite having a brand-new room, it was located at the very top of the resort -- nice views from the parking lot, but we couldn't walk to the lobby, the restaurant, the pool, the water park, the store, the playground, etc. (they do provide a trolley to take guests down, but who wants to wait 45 minutes for a trolley?). Finally, we shared an inner door with a smaller unit in front -- they had a teething baby who screamed and cried around the clock, and who banged on the door (apparently in their kitchen) when he wasn't crying...you could hear people's conversations, dishes clanking, just absolutely no sound-proofing or insulation whatsoever. We could also hear kids running around on the floor above us.

The water park was cool, but we weren't spending $18 per person per day, no discount for groups or kids (we were with a group of about 50) -- it's apparently free for time-share owners, but the resort charge of $9 per day should have provided options for a group our size. Our 2 kids were very disappointed. And we couldn't book spa services because they didn't have any appointments available, even though we arrived on a Wednesday morning.

The "Grill" restaurant was reasonably priced but the food was mediocre at best, inedible at worst (we actually couldn't eat the pancakes one morning due to a very sour flavor), although the brisket hash was actually quite tasty. We went to the Cracker Barrel in Pigeon Forge for both breakfast and lunch after the sour pancake experience -- MUCH better!

All in all, the location is good (half-way between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge), the grounds are nice, and the views are lovely. But we wouldn't recommend it to anyone and we certainly would never buy a timeshare there. If we ever return to that part of the country, we'll find somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one with no neighbors!

We stayed at the Westgate resort while we were in the Rod Run downtown Gatlinburg. At first I thought it was going to be too far away but it was actually in a perfect place. Wasn't so far where we couldn't get to downtown in a matter of minutes, but faraway where we could have some alone time. The room was very well-maintained and clean the bathroom was huge. The only thing I seen that I did not like was you had to pay extra to get into the little waterpark had, I feel that should have been included in your room. Can't wait to go back next year and stay there again.

Went looking for a clean, nice hotel/place for a last minute get away. Went to Hotwire and noticed this name - but, at much higher cost, so instead went to the Resort Web Site and got a great deal/package - 1/2 off regular prices. Caution - Directions on the website are poor - and customer service lines are turned off after hours, we had very late night arrival (12:30 am) so we stopped in Gatlinburg and asked a Police Officer for assistance, and they were very helpful - that was the only snag in checking in. Is new, clean and nice. Met our needs perfectly - only down side was the waterpark didn't open until 11:00 am - but, was still worth it, as we were traveling with our young daughter, and it was a great day and break from hiking! Would go again at the price we had (would not pay full price) however, lots of perks.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room with a balcony - so you get a room with a view of the mountains.

So we get to the resort to check in and the desk clerk is at best sullen. She says they need a credit card on file and nothing will be charged to it. So that annoys me because I have never had to leave a card on file when we went to any other resort, and I checked my credit card, and they charged $50. I asked about internet and she informs me that it is $9 a day but there are different packages available for longer times. Seriously?? The flea bag hotels give you free wifi and this place doesn't? Then they gave us a coupon for a free "gift" -1 coffee and 1 laundry soap - which you have to go back - with the coupon- and get. again, seriously? Every resort I have checked into has provided both soap and coffee and was happy to give you more if you need it. Next is the "water park". We had no plans to use it, but we found out that if we did there was a $17 charge per person, this of course was never mentioned when the reservation was made. So we finally get our keys and head to the room, it was already dark about 1030p. First off there is a step of about 2 in high right at the top of the stairs, and there is no lighting so you can not see it. I almost tripped over it, but luckily I was able to catch myself before I went tumbling down the 12 stairs. There was one light by the front door that was pointed straight at you as you were coming down the stairs, blinding you - so we moved that so it was pointing better. Then we get in the room, We have a 2bd, 2 bth unilt. The bedroom downstairs has a double bed, desk, wardrobe with tv, nightstand, long 6 ft bench along the wall and bunk beds, all in a normal sized bedroom There is very little room to move at all. We were so glad that is just us, anyone else and I would have been totally embarrassed by the size and bedding in the room.
The rest of the downstairs was fine, just very small compared to other resorts we have been to. The couch was a fold out, but to do that you would have to move the rest of the furniture out of the way and pull the couch back to get it open, and then you would have no room to move around.
Then we started to head to the upstairs, but found the light to the upstairs did not work, and we could not see upstairs at all. I called, and maintenance, who came about 1/4 hour later. When they could not find the fuse box they said they would be moving us to the room next to us, I asked if it was the same type of room, and he said "basically". My husband went to look at the room and they found the fuse box in the other room. Once they flipped the switch, the power to the upstairs came on and we were able to see the entire room. We talked with the maintenance man about the lack of lighting, and he said they have been complaining about it for years, but nothing has been done.
The kitchen is very small, 4x4 floor space with little counter space. The unit can have up to 8 people, but I cannot imagine trying to cook for that many people in this small space, without iy being a trial.
The kitchen has no garbage disposal, and one of the crisper drawers in the refrigerator has a big crack in it. There are lights over the counter/bar area that hung so low you would hit them if you were sitting there, so we moved the lights up to a better height.
The trash can for the kitchen cannot go under counter, so it was in the dining area.about 3ft from the kitchen.
Even though the unit is supposed to be able to have up to 8 people there is table sitting for only 6. There is counter for 2-3 more,
To get into the closet where the stacked washer and dryer are you have to move furniture out of the way, not a huge deal, but again, an example of the poor layout of the living room.
Upstairs the TV is clear across the room and fixed at an angle away from the bed is not able to be moved.
The hot tub in the master bath doesn't work right, the jets blow no air through them, hence no bubbling.
There are two chairs and a small table on the balcony off the master bedroom. On one of the chairs it looks as though someone has cut the top of the chair and it is shredding off. So there is really only one chair usable.

There is no phone book, no resort guide, no guest info at all. I thought it was an oversite, but I called the office and they said there are not those things in the rooms.

The parking is impossible - there are 3 spaces for the 6 units in our area.

Don;t get me wrong, there is a lot of pluses to the resort, the area is beautiful, and the grounds are just lovely. The view from the master bedroom is amazing.
We can tell that at one time there was great thought put into the accommodations, however they were poorly executed, not updated and definitely have not been maintained over time and it shows everywhere in the units.

We understand that things wear out and not everything can always be in perfect order, But spider webs, dust, and torn carpets, among other things are easy to take care of quickly.

We booked as an exchange through Interval International and really feel that for the price they charge and the regard in which Westgate holds itself, the rooms should be better laid out and much better maintained.
