My husband and I spent a long weekend in Gatlinburg and stayed at the Gatlinburg Town Square. Our unit was a studio unit, and these are only suitable for 2 people in my opinion. They are small, but do include a refrigerator, a microwave and a sink which is nice. There would be sleeping for 4 but I wouldn't be comfortable with it because the unit simply isn't large enough. The unit was fairly clean - keeping in mind that the property is not brand new, so some of the room decor is a bit outdated. There were some minor things wrong in the unit but nothing of major significance. The property itself was just okay - I didn't think the exterior was as nice as it could have been. It wasn't as clean and well manicured as others that I saw. The worse part of the experience was the parking. We have a Camry and we had a terrible time parking in the garage underneath. If you have a larger vehicle, I would recommend going someplace else. We could hardly get into the parking garage - the opening is extremely narrow - and once inside had a hard time either finding a place or deciding on which absolutely tiny space we wanted to park our car in! There is almost no way to get out of your car without bumping into your neighbor! One evening when we returned, there were NO parking places underneath or in the few available on top, and we had to park down the street in the 'overflow' lot outside the registration office, which by the way, is not located in front of the property, it is down a block or so on the left side of the street. Not a place I wanted to park my car!
There was quite a bit of noise - mostly because of the families and their children at the pool or the basketball court - but that didn't bother us. We have grown children and we remember how exciting vacation was for our kids. We took our kids to Gatlinburg years ago and it has changed immensely! The location of this property is pretty good if you want to be 'in the heart' of the action. There are a lot of restaurants in the area you can walk to. If you don't like cramped spaces, this area is not for you. There is a lot of traffic and it is a very busy place. If you want a place with lots of things for kids to do (that cost $$$) and you like to visit a lot of small shops (t-shirt, purses, Christmas) you'll love Gatlinburg. If you don't like that, definitely visit the arts and crafts community - it is a gem of a place that offers several single shops where the owners are many times the very talented artists who are friendly and willing to share their 'craft' with you. Try the Wild Plum restaurant. It is kind of a 'tea room' - but my husband was comfortable sitting outside. And, of course the mountains are so beautiful and the park has no entrance fee! Overall, I think the Gatlinburg Town Square deserves what others have given it - about a 3-1/2 on a 5 pt. scale.
