“Fabulous Time at Park Vista”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2010

The last time I stayed at the Park Vista, Clinton was in office. It was looking a little run down even then. However, now that Hilton/Doubletree has taken over, this hotel is FABULOUS!! I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Gatlinburg. The views from the "park view" side were lovely. The staff were very polite and professional. The food options are very good and reasonably priced. It was quiet (even with badly behaved middle schoolers staying on the lower floors) and we slept like babies. The Trolley Stop was an added bonus and saved us from having to pay to park in town. We will be back! Whether you're looking for a romantic spot or a nice place to take the family, this hotel is perfect!

You can read all the other reviews, and you'll see they are glowing, since the renovation was done in June 2010.

I agree wholeheartedly with them.

I completely disagree with the reviewer who said there is bed bugs. THERE IS NOT.

I inspected our room, and even asked the front desk manager.

The room was beautiful, view was stuffing, and jumping onto a trolley was a peach.

They come every 20 mins to the hotel they say, but the schedule of the trolleys is haywire. It comes about every 30 mins or so.

The parking lot is too small... need more space, but that's hard on a mountain.

Sink in bathroom was a slow drain, but otherwise, had an excellent stay.

I stayed here 3 years ago for a work conference. At that time is was nice, clean and staffed with very pleasant people but it was showing age looking a bit tired. I stayed over one night last month . The change was spectacular. Everything but the birds has been changed. It is so comfortable and relaxing. The beds are the best thing! If you have never slept in a doubletree bed you have to try them! Feather duvet and pillows! the coffee in the room was very good. I would like to stay for several days and play tourist. I work in the area, we were having a very late night and was too tired to drive 90 minutes just to turn around and drive back in 3 hours. This place is amazing compared to what i saw years ago. They had a huge remodling done. highly recommended. The staff was still so warm and helpful. The breakfast was very good. i first thought the price was high (12.99) until i found out it was all-you-can-eat and just how much food there was. it was more that worth the price. i am planning to book a room for my dad the next time he is up.

I stayed at the Park Vista 6 years ago and since that time I have told everyone about how run down it was and that it was probably nice when it was built in the 1970's.

Wellll, they have invested 11 million dollars and it is now a Doubletree and the improvements are INCREDIBLE. Each room has been gutten and re-done. The decor, the beds, everything in the room is top notch (just wish they had free wireless). The suite I had was HUGE...2 rooms.

Didn't have the kids with me, but they would have LOVED the pool area. Slides, zero entry, etc. The views of the mountains are the BEST of a hotel in Gatlinburg. Nice bar area in the lobby. The staff is awesome. I was on the computer one night in the lobby and struck up a conversation with the night manager. I told yher how I loved the Doubletree cookies....she got me a cookie and some milk. If you haven't been there in a while...go back and give it another try.

Stayed there one nite thats all it took. Was itchy & scratchy all nite. Woke up with bedbug bites all over my back & side. they didnt go away for 2 weeks. The sheets smelled awful bleachy like they knew they had them but were trying to kill them. Our luggage was over by the bathroom so thankfully we didnt take them home with us. we were on the 2nd from the top floor. hardly anyone else stayed there. food wasnt good, hotel was old. great mountain/town views though.

GMParkvista, Manager at Park Vista - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel - Gatlinburg, responded to this review, October 8, 2010
Please accept my apology for your stay in November of 2009. It is our policy to immediately address every guest's concern. Our housekeeping staff is trained to look for and report any areas of concern in any room. We also have a professional pest control company under contract to protect the entire hotel as well as all sleeping rooms, now as well as in the past.
In January of 2010 our hotel began a major $11 million dollar renovation project, in which every room as well as the public space was completely renovated. All new linens, carpets, wall coverings, and furniture were only part of this wonderful change. I hope that you will return to the NEW Park Vista for a second look.
Thank you Jackelyn R. Schafer – General Manager

The remodel has this hotel looking fresh and cozy. I especially enjoyed the lobby area with its TVs, magazines, computers all out in the open. You can even curl up with a blanket on a comfy chair or view the bird aviary. The grounds were pretty and well maintained. And the view, this hotel has awesome views of the mountains. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially George. We enjoyed the pools however the skylights above could use a serious wash. Our room was clean and we had enough space but the pipes did rattle at times when we turned on the shower.

We had the pleasure of visiting staying at the Park Vista from 8/29 through 9/2. I wanted to stay somewhere that was clean, slightly luxurious, and had lots of amenities to keep us busy. I had trouble deciding between the Park Vista and The Inn at Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge. I'm so glad I chose the quaint, walkable streets of Gatlinburg over the multi-lane road that runs through Pigeon Forge. We had a fantastic time and couldn't have made a better choice for lodging. There were very few guests at the hotel during this week (school had already started in the South), so it felt like we had the place all to ourselves.

The hotel is located up a steep hill less than five minutes from Gatlinburg's main Parkway. It is not possible to walk to the shops and attractions (unless you have a death wish), but the trolley always seemed to be at the hotel's front door (two of the lines stop here). Since it wasn't busy, we also had the option of driving to one of the town parking lots and paying. If visiting Dollywood, instead of taking the trolley from the hotel (and transferring lines), drive to the Patriot Park/The Old Mill parking lot in Pigeon Forge and ride the trolley straight to the front gate. Parking is free and you won't need to ride the Dollywood tram from your car.

All rooms at the hotel are newly remodeled with beautiful furniture and fixtures. We had a room with two queen beds on the 11th floor. Since the hotel is circular, all rooms have a balcony (without chairs) with a view of the surrounding mountains. The sink (granite counter) is located outside of the toilet/shower area, which works well for our family. There is a built-in armoire instead of the usual hotel closet. It seemed a little odd that the iron didn't fit on the top shelf standing up, and the board was dangling off of the clothing bar. There was still space for clothing, but if you like to hang everything, it might be a little tight. I'm not sure the tub area was part of the remodel, but the wallpaper looked great. A giant flat screen TV and a mini-fridge (with two bottles of water) were nice touches.

The hotel lobby has a strong Smoky Mountain theme, with comfortable furniture (including blankets in case you feel chilly), multiple TV's, lots of books and magazines, a huge (fake) stuffed bear to pose with, a small bird aviary, and a bank of computers in the center. The highlight of this hotel is the phenomenal 3-section pool. The first level has a baby pool with a small waterfall and a zero-entry preschooler pool with sprayers and a small slide build into a rock wall. The upper pool has a serpentine water slide and hot tub. We all had a great time on the slide - not painful at all. My husband used the workout room and was very satisfied with the equipment. There was also a small arcade room and an outdoor playset with swings and a slide.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Someone was always making sure we were having a good time. My husband is a Hilton Diamond Club member, so we received coupons for two free continental breakfasts each day (which we could upgrade to complete breakfast for a few dollars). The restaurant has a lovely buffet with eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, omelet station, pancakes, and waffles on the hot side. The continental breakfast includes cereal, fruits, yogurt, breads, and delicious pastries (no cardboard muffins here). We didn't try lunch, dinner, or room service, but I'm sure it's good. The lounge is located off of the lobby and has an outdoor firepit in the evenings.
