“Doesn't Look Like Web Site Shows!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2005

We decided last year to stay here after looking at the web site.
BAD IDEA! The road getting there is very very steep and honestly scary. The place is packed in the summer time with loud, screaming kids that are running around everywhere.
The swimming pool was nothing special and the rooms were totally a disappointment.

Our room was standard and unatttractive with a small television and the balcony was also smaller than we hoped for. Trolly does not stop very often your better off staying in hotel located on main parkway.

From now on we are staying at our favorite hotel and never changing again. Best Western Zoder's Inn is Excellent!

We spent four nights at the Park Vista during Christmas. Their website made it out to be a great resort, but we found it to be lacking. The drive up can be scary since it is so steep; the trolley runs about every half hour. When we arrived it was extremely windy. We started out on the 7th floor and had to be moved in the middle of the first night due to the wind. It sounded and felt like the windows were going to blow in. We were moved to the 2nd floor where it was quieter. Both rooms had ladybugs every where, which was a little odd. The showers in both rooms did not have good temp control. The water was either too hot or too cold. The TV was small and looked old. In general, the room seemed old and worn. The staff was nice but not very outgoing. With so many other hotels in Gatlinburg, I know we won't stay at the Park Vista again.

My wife and I bring the kids here every February just for a short family weekend trip to get out of the house and swim in the heated pool. That's pretty much the whole reason we've chosen this hotel so many times. The pools are big. Usually they are heated to a nice temperature, but the last time we were there in February, the pool was just luke warm. When the temperatures outside are in the 20's I want the heated pool to be HEATED. We could only swim for about 15 minutes and then we were all shivering and wishing we were in the room with the heater on high. I asked the pool guy about the temperature, but he just brushed us off and said it was as warm as usual...HOGWASH!

Let me now back up to our checkin experience. The room we were given was just like always...2 double beds overlooking the city. However, this time we were not alone in the room. There were ladybugs crawling everywhere - doors, walls, ceilings, beds. I knew they wouldn't really hurt us in any way, but I just don't really like the thoughts of bugs crawling on me when I sleep. So I went down to the front desk and explained to them about the ladybug infestation. They just laughed and said "They do this all of the time". These morons at the front desk didn't even OFFER to change my room...not until I demanded it, anyway.

I've never eaten at the restuarant, but from looking at the menu it seems way overpriced. Why would anyone eat at a hotel restaurant when there are so many other places to choose from anyway, like the Pancake Restaurant in the Village?

Being from Knoxville, our trips to and through Gatlinburg are too numerous to even count, and we've stayed at other hotels in Gatlinburg with heated pools. I've come to the conclusion that they are all just tired-looking and worn and are in great need of refurbishment. The Park Vista is no different.

We go to Gatlinburg several times a year for skiing and usually stay in a chalet, but because snow was expected we wanted to stay closer to town. We picked the Park Vista because the trolley comes to the door and takes you to the aireal tram and we wouldn't have to drive. Also because we were bringing our Shih Tzu along for the trip. They accept small dogs and provide a goody bag for them at check in with directions to areas for bathroom breaks. Our room was very clean on the 15 floor. The 3 glass elevators are slow but there are two more on a different hall that no one seemed to use and were much faster. The pool was a favorite spot for our boys and stays open until midnight. The pool is heated and enclosed by glass and the room is heated by overhead elements. It was 5 degrees outside so this was the warmest spot anywhere. The restaurant food was very good and the staff was very friendly. The hotel is at the end of a very steep, long driveway. (No worse than going up Ski Mtn Rd.) The Park Vista has their on snow plow so they are able to keep the road to the hotel clear after it has snowed, which it did by 5 or 6 inch while we were there. Once the weather got so bad the trolley stopped running and we were stuck in town. It was about a 45 minute walk in the snow to the hotel but the hotel had a van at the bottom of the driveway to bring guest up. We will be back.
