“This is a nice Hotel, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

This is a nice hotel. The circular hotel has nice views from nearly all rooms. No need for the $7 upgrade. Look at your room, and if not satisfied, go back and pay the $7. It is clean, with cushy beds and poor TV's. The "balcony" is only a thin walk out, mostly used by smokers. The Heating/Air Conditioning Unit is the problem. It is tremendously LOUD. When it starts up, you cannot hear TV, or sleep. And, with the wall thermostat, the low is not low. It comes on strongly, and often. The trolley line comes to the hotel, so driving will only be necessary for the Artists Circle Road. There is little to no parking downtown. Even with the loud AC, this may be the best hotel in Gatlinburg.

Room Tip: You probably don't need the $7

Dear dcoder3;

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. You had mentioned the TV service. We recently installed all new 42 inch LG flat panel units in all sleeping rooms; we also are in the process of installing new fiber optic HD service for the hotel and all rooms. Hopefully your concern will be addressed with our new HD service.
Thank you again for staying with us, travel safely and return soon.

We took a family vacation (2 girls, ages 5 and 7) to Gatlinburg for spring break and we stayed at this hotel. I was a little leary of a hotel b/c although we've been to Gburg/Pigeon Forge area many times, we always stayed in cabins or condos b/c the motels all looked kind of run down to me. What a pleasant surprise this place was! It was beautiful as were the grounds, and the staff was as good as any you would find at a 4-star property. Even though they were quite busy, they were SO helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We are fans for life now. Can't say I will always choose a hotel over a cabin when we come back, but if it is a hotel, it will without a doubt be this one. The kids loved the indoor pools and slides (wasn't too impressed as an adult but if the kids were happy, we were happy!) and we did the breakfast included rate, which I HIGHLY recommend. The buffet was amazing and it was a really good value bundled together. I have absolutely nothing to complain about from our stay. It was definitely one of our top hotel stay experiences as a family we've had yet.

Beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains from the panoramic hotel window/balcony! Our room was very nice & was clean. We purchased the Great Get Away rate (including breakfast) which we felt was a very good deal. The breakfasts were much more than your typical continental breakfast. (There was even a chef who would make eggs or pancakes to order!) The warm cookies were a nice treat too! The hotel staff was always courteous. Our children 3 & 5 LOVED the kiddie pool area with small fountains & a water slide. Be sure to allow time to enjoy the pool The trolley system was handy to get around Gatlinburg!

Room Tip: We didn't pay more for the mountain views, so we overlooked the parking lot, but still had a bea...

Hotel itself is very impressive. Nice room, impressive lobby & grounds, great views from room above gatlinburg. Pools are great. Only complaint we have (minor) was that the staff was somewhat overwhelmed with the breakfast rush in morning. I think they had an issue with people out sick? Other than that minor thing, would stay there again... Also note, that this is NOT walking distance to downtown gatlinburg, but the shuttle is very convenient...

Dear kingbilly68;
Thank you for staying with us while in Gatlinburg, and for sharing your experience. We have hired several new employees in our restaurant. We are very happy they have joined our Park Vista family and I do believe you will find the service levels have increased now everyone is familiar with our operation.
Travel safely and hope to see you again soon.

Beautiful rooms. Newly remodeled and upscale for the price. Excellent view of gatlinburg...quiet. Nice "jungle" themed pool for the kids. BUT....there's two things you should know before you book: (1) you can NOT walk to gatlinburg. It's too far and the road leading up to the hotel is steep and winding...and absolutely dark at night. Very dangerous for anyone on foot. You have to take the gatlinburg trolly or drive and pay to park; (2) don't do the bed and breakfast option. Food is poor and hotel doesn't do a good job of managing their breakfast buffet. Room service is no better. Overall, lovely hotel...but skip the food and plan to buy a trolly pass if you are staying at the park vista.

Dear Atlantamom1;

Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your experience. Part of our charm is our location and I certainly would recommend riding the Gatlinburg trolley to and from the city. Although our location is really very close to the city, the $2.00 for an all day trolley pass is by far much more enjoyable then attempting the walk. Many adventurous guests do enjoy attempting the hill for a jog but I certainly would not be one on them, they are better athletes then I am. Your comments concerning our breakfast buffet have been shared with our “new” restaurant manager, and I assure you they will be addressed.
Thank you again for your stay, travel safely and hope to see you in the near future.

A few things: 1) luggage carriers are a hot property here 2) hotel is HOT as in miserable 3) elevators are small and SLOW! 3) Staff was friendly especially Lynn at the front desk 4) Parking is spacious but they need to control arrivals/departures better - pretty much chaos, especially if the trolley is there to pick up guests and they block you in....nice! 5) horrible balconies....but I must say the wasps and other insects enjoyed them 6) Beds were nice and clean and bug-free which is always nice. In conclusion, it is an OK hotel not representative of a Hilton property in my opinion -just a big small town hotel run by local yokels that are trying to keep up and failing.

The employees are running this nicely done remodel into the ground. They obviously just don't care. It's evident that it's a brand-new remodel, with lovely bedding and furniture and a really nicely done lobby, but every floor in the hotel was absolutely filthy. The place is going to be a total pit in a year, because there is zero upkeep. Garbage in front of elevator shafts and pizza boxes piled outside rooms. The carpet already had stains in the room. But the worst was the pool - and it's really a sin. The pool was beautifully redone with landscaping, but as soon as you enter the doors it looks as if the carpet to the stairs has NEVER been vacuumed. Little pieces of garbage all over the floor. The stairs to the pool were full of dustballs and hair. I was so sorry I walked in with my kids to the pool area because of course they wanted to go in, and it was just filthy. A layer of scum on the top and giant hairballs floating in the pool. There is an atrium for the workout room in the pool area, and the roof of it was covered with dust and trash. Totally disgusting. It's one of the main reasons that I checked out early - we were supposed to stay for 5 nights, and instead stayed 2 and moved to another hotel. Had to get my kids away from that pool!

The employees are the worst. We checked in late the first night after driving 12 hours and asked for a luggage cart. The response: "Well, if they're not in the walkway, they are somewhere on one of the floors". 15 floors in this hotel, mind you. All the rest of our encounters with staff were just as bad. They don't greet you at the desk, just stare at you and hope you go away when you have a question. The manager came out and actually said to an employee "Who wants to talk to me? About what?" in a very annoyed tone. Just rude and lazy employees.

As far as the structure of the hotel itself, keep in mind that it IS a remodel - there is only so much they can do with tiny 70's bathrooms and 3-foot wide concrete balconies. The balconies were dirty - mud piled in the corners. I don't think they've ever been hosed off. No furniture on them. And the roof constantly drips condensation on you as you stand out there anyway. Too bad, because it did have some nice mountain views. The other thing we discovered is that every one of those hotel site pictures that show lovely lounging areas are deceptive - they face parking lots. Adirondack chairs? In the car dropoff zone. Fire pit? In the bar facing the parking lot. There is nowhere on the grounds to sit and have a peaceful moment unless you want to be surrounded by cars.

No bugs, which I was worried about based on previous reviews. The beds were comfortable and the finishings in the room were really nice, except the dirty carpet. A/C was a little loud but didn't bother me - it functioned well; the room was nice and cold. Shower has an old-style shower head, and the toilet was original to the building. You had to hold down the handle for 30 seconds to get it to flush every time. Really annoying. They spent so much money on decor - couldn't they have installed a new toilet?

We also hated that we had to drive through Gatlinburg to get to the national park. We are used to staying at the Lodge at Buckberry Creek that is right on the bypass, so we were really annoyed with the Gatlinburg traffic into the Smokies. Minor issue compared to the other problems the hotel has, though.

I would absolutely not stay in this hotel again, based on the filth level alone.
