“Extremely Rude! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

When checking the campground out we were accosted by the owner. We misunderstood and thought it would be okay to look at the campsites before going into the office. We were chased down by a lady in a golf cart who was EXTREMELY RUDE. She explained to us that we missed the stop in signed in a very rude manner. I was told if we broke the rules again that we would be "spanked". This is highly inappropriate.

My sweet daughters were very frightened by the rudeness.

It is okay to run a "tight ship". But you can explain to people in a kind manner what rules have been broken especially potential customers.

I have to be honest, when I first read the reviews for this campground I was a bit concerned. However a good friend of mine has been several times and assured me there was nothing to worry about.

Let me tell you... All of you who posted that the owners were terrible and mean should be ashamed of yourselves. They are some of the nicest people I have ever met.

Darlene is a no nonsense too the point person... take it or leave it. I had the opportunity to get to know Darlene, she is wonderful and very pleasent to talk to if you take to time to get to know her...thats what life and camping is all about... getting to know the people that come into your life and not trying to get something from them.

Darlene runs a tight ship and that makes for a great time. We didnt have to worry about speeding cars while our kids where playing. We didnt have to worry about someone who was not suppose to be in campground without the owners knowledge. We didnt have to worry about the drunks playing their radios and running around the campground all hours of the night.

I spent 50 cents on one of the hottest shower I have ever taken while camping. It is very expensive to run a campground in a prime location of Gatlinburg so it was no big deal.

This is some of the things we enjoyed during our weekend:
Beautiful views of the river and a riverside campsite.
Great campfires with Great friends and family.
Getting to know Darlene and her husband (and two dogs).

I guess what I am trying to say is... If you want to be a Drunk Rule Breaking Camper than Greenbrier Island is NOT the place for you. If you want to enjoy a beautiful Campground where the owner cares about the campers than you should try it out. We are already planning another trip back to Greenbrier Island.

When we arrived we booked with a friendly older woman who informed us that she was filling in for the owner/manager. We informed her how many were in our party, including our three miniature dachshunds, and she allowed us to pick our own site. After we were all set up a teenage boy informed us that we would have to move to a full hook-up site because of our dogs. We were a little confused by this as we were just told to pick whichever site we liked. Out of mere curiosity we asked why having pets requires a full hook-up site. (It's not as though they can use a toilet.) He explained that he had no idea and that it was just a rule set forth by the owner/manager. Without incident we accepted it and began gathering our things to move to another site. The next thing we know the owner/manager is pulling up on a golf cart and immediately jumping down our throats for questioning her rules. Mind you, we weren't hostile in the least when asking about this particular rule. She informed us that we were no longer welcome at her campground and was literally harassing us. She continued to carry on in a very
unprofessional manner. We have never dealt with such horrible service! Aside from that, the property is very run down and unkempt. The bathrooms are dirty and old. They could definitely use a serious upgrade! Furthermore, you have to pay for your shower! The owner/manager also has a rule against leaving or entering the campground between the hours of 11pm-6am. This wouldn't have affected us but how ridiculous is that? The woman who owns/manages this place is on one heck of a serious power trip and is in desperate need of a valuable lesson in customer service! The only perk to this place is that it's located on a nice, little stream. That definitely doesn't make up for the rest of it's short comings though. Do yourself a favor; do not stay here!!!!! We ended up at Smoky Bear campground and are so thankful that we did!

I would NOT recommend this place! We encountered the WORST service ever and we travel very often! The staff has no idea what is going on and, for the most part, is VERY rude! Don't waste your time! Stick with Smoky Bear or Twin Creek; they are way nicer properties with very friendly staff!

Quiet, clean, well maintained, clean bathhouse, has creek,. Campground is well supervised by Darlene. You don't have to worry about someone coming in that doesn't belong there. I have been there many times and will go back again when I get a chance.

We come to this campground every year, and have been for over 15 years. It is a fabulous place to stay. We tent camp and teh kids love it. Bathrooms are clean and the sites are spacious enough for all the people we have in our group.

Beautiful stream, great location BUT...the owner manager (female) has an intrusive manner (putting it as kindly as I can here) and the place is not cared for . The picnic tables are old and not maintained in the slightest - and I mean to the extreme, as in I think it is going to fall apart right in front of our eyes - ; The bathrooms are not only old and rusty but also dirty, crumbling, and you're expected to actually pay to shower - yep, you heard me, it is extra money to shower. The sites are mainly grass/mud with a little gravel strewn here and there. I saw the other manager (the man) throw gravel on 2 little girls and their dad's brand new care one day. They Dad was miffed and waving his arms for him to stop but the guy did not care. It is a pity because of the great locale.
