“We all enjoyed our stay!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

Our room was spacious and clean! The staff here was very helpful and friendly! The indoor pool is neat! The kids loved it! This hotel has a little cafe connected to it which was really convenient! We really enjoyed our stay and we will be back! :)

the hotel was clean but the bed hard as a brick. i need a king size room when my husband and i travel and they only had those in the club level. it would have been nice to overlook the river or even if our room had a bslcony overlooking the pool. the adverting just doesnt tell the true story.

We enjoyed a 2 night stay here at the end of February. We were originally just going to stay for one night but after seeing our room we went and extended it immediately. We loved the fireplace in our room and the little balcony overlooking the stream.
The decor of the room could be updated and the amenities weren't flash but for a low cost room this was no issue.
Location was good, about a ten minute walk down to the main shops and a twenty minute walk back (slightly uphill).
We enjoyed the indoor pools. A great addition to the hotel.
The staff were very accommodating and helped us out when we had trouble with our car which was much appreciated.
Definitely recommend.

We stayed at the Sydney James this weekend and plan to stay there again on our next trip down. The staff was friendly and helpful and as accommodating as possible. This hotel is outdated,no shocker there, most are in Gatlinburg. However, it is exceptionally clean and you will never have trouble with having no hot water. I'm fairly certain you could boil crabs with water from the shower.(which has excellent pressure) We stayed in a 2 queen bed room that was very spacious, there was seriously enough room to put 2 full size air mattresses if the need arose, comfortably. The pool area was a big plus for my crew.Once again, its old but clean and the theme and decor was considered very cool to my 10 year old(and me.) The hot tub is nestled in a grotto like area off to the side and kept at a reasonable temp. The pool itself wraps around a large fake rock and provides a place for the kids to "hide". It adds flair to the experience according to my daughter. Really, the only drawbacks that affected me, were the sandpaper like bath towels and the ridiculously slow wi-fi. The beds are old but fairly comfy but bring your own pillows!Very reasonably priced and located right off of the strip.

My husband and I were glad we chose to stay at the SJ. We drove to Gatlinburg with no hotel reservation and wanted to find a one with a hottub and within walking distance to town. After stopping by several hotels around town we decided on the SJ after seeing the room. The very polite front desk person said they only had one king room available and offered us the key after we asked if we could see it and the pool area. When we walked into the room our first thought was "dated". But, it was clean, spacious, had a king bed, gas fireplace, small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, big jacuzzi tub, flat screen TV, chair, loveseat and balcony overlooking a stream with two chairs and small table. The balcony overlooking the stream sealed the deal. We went back to the front desk told the gentleman we'd take it. He told us they had a deal going on that if you stay two nights you get the third for free, which was perfect for us.

The indoor pool area was nice which included a hottub and sauna (we didn't check out the sauna). Even though the hotel was full, the pool area was never crowded. They also had an outdoor pool which was closed for winter. There was a poolside cafe but we didn't try it since we always ate in town.

The walk to town was down hill and the walk back wasn't bad. I believe it is no more than half a mile and quite doable. There is a pancake place on the same road, very near, that we ate at twice and was very good. When you walk to town, Bubba Gump and the space needle are on the corner.

We normally don't prefer a ground floor room (noise and safety) but loved the stream right below our balcony. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. The cleaning crew were so quiet we never heard them. Other places we've stayed, been waken by the cleaning people slamming doors, etc. Front desk personel were always friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay at the SJ and will stay there again.

If you have an animal, you are discarded across the street to the motel. These rooms have no fireplace. They are extremely small, heater extremely loud. Furniture of poor quality. Bathroom old with stained grout and dirty. You are given minimum amount of linens but they were generous with a request for additional items. However we had to walk across the street to get them. Only positive was indoor pool and hot tub. Left and went to Pigeon Forge. We were so extremely disappointed in the whole experience. Definitely will never return or recommend to anyone.

Rooms are same as 29.00 motel 6 rooms, same distance from the strip as motel 6. If you have a pet they make you stay across the street in some terrible rooms. Ice machine was broken, had to walk across street to get ice
