“Old. Needs updating...and better parking.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We were traveling to Florida and wanted to stop & experience Gatlinburg. The hotel is on a hill that you walk up & down to the city. It' was in a good location for us but not a quality stay. We had kayaks and bikes on our car that worried us as we left it in their parking lot. We couldn't see our car from our room, like we wanted. It is an old hotel and the front desk was separated from the rest of the hotel. The young guy checking us in was an undesirable sort. We saw him standing outside smoking and surveying the area which made us feel uneasy. Everything needed to be updated in the room - the bed, the dresser, the TV, everything. The bathroom was just inside behind the outside door. It felt cold and I didn't like the feeling of it knowing that just on the other side of the door was the outside.

We reserved this hotel (TN270) online, as members, on ChoiceHotels.com. Choice Hotels, you really disappointed us. Again.

Room Tip: Slept uneasy. Needs a facelift and a more secured feeling.

We got the room on the right side of the leasing office with the jacuzzi tub. The staff was super friendly and the room was very clean. No it's no the most update but for the price and location it was perfect!! Again the location is perfect to walk everywhere!

Judging by the other reviews, it sounds like most people either really like this place, or really hate it. We're in the group that really liked it. It seems like some people have a much better experience here than others, so I don't know if the quality of the rooms is inconsistent throughout the property or what. Maybe some people just have unrealistic expectations for a budget motel. I can only speak for myself, and I liked it here. Our room was very good, especially for the modest price we paid. No problems with check-in or check-out, and the front desk staff was very friendly (especially the lady who checked us in, unfortunately I didn't get her name).

Reading previous reviews, I was apprehensive about staying here, but we needed an inexpensive place to stay on this trip to Gatlinburg, so I decided to take my chances and hope for the best. We ended up having a really nice stay. Our room had a king size bed, mini-fridge, gas fireplace, and a great view overlooking all of Gatlinburg and the mountains beyond. It was a little rough around the edges here and there, but there was nothing wrong with it - everything worked fine, and it was very clean and neat.

If a luxury hotel is what you're looking for, then keep looking. Like most of the motels on and around the main strip of Gatlinburg, this is a 1950's-style motor-court-type motel, not an ultra-modern, luxury resort. But these old Gatlinburg motels have a quaint, nostalgic quality to them that I enjoy. We have another trip to Gatlinburg coming up in a few months, and we've already made another reservation at Rodeway Inn Skyland. As long as furture visits are as good as this one was, we'll continue to return here.

We stayed here in Dec.for my sons birthday. Been in this room before. It needs somethings fixed. Water runs in bathtub and never stops and floor is water logged. The wifi sucks had to connect another motel. It would hookup but keep getting DSL message. But is in great spot if you going to be in Gatlinburg alot.

Nasty dirty rooms!! Or at least the one we were in. It looked like it hadnt been cleaned in a year. The plug in's were pulled out of the wall. There were bugs in the framed pictures on the walls. There was an old light shade that was yellow and cracked and next to it was a new one??? The floors were disgusting. All you are paying for in this hotel is location. I will never stay here again. My husband let them know what was wrong and they just looked at him. No "I'm Sorry" or anything.

My husband and I stayed at this property in Sept. Tile and grout was stained and carpet dirty, we would NOT walk in the room unless we had shoes on. Door was coming apart at the bottom of the door frame letting in air and dirt from the outside. Air conditioner had no cover and was covered with grease and dirt. Lamp shade torn, odd smell in room. Wi-fi NOT available. Major cracks in the deck, re-bar exposed. In short not only was it not clean, it was unsafe. Office staff was not helpful when approached about not having a wi-fi connection. I am not a camper, but I would sleep outside on the ground before I would set foot in this hotel.

Room Tip: Check room out before paying and bringing your luggage into the room.
