Owner description: Horseshoe Bend is the intimate Grand Canyon experience (although technically located in Glen Canyon.) The trailhead to this 3/4 mile hike is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River, 4 miles south of the Glen Canyon Dam, and 7 miles north of mile zero of the Grand Canyon.

“Iconic View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

So this is one of those attractions you immediately recognize from photos - the bend in the Colorado River often seen from a fish eye lens. There is a short hike to the bend, though it is sandy and has elevation changes making it not quite an easy hike for some. There is some real danger from standing on the edge as pointed out in the warning signs, but that doesn't seem to worry too many as the tour buses load unload plenty of tourists. I would recommend timing a visit to mid day with the sun high in the sky - morning and evening will produce shadows as I learned. I heard rumors that because of the tour bus stops the parking lot is going to be expanded. It's probably a matter of time before there are more incidents/accidents just based on the number of people visiting, but it is one of those images you will see in pictures used everywhere.

“It's quite a hike.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

It is a beautiful canyon carved by the Colorado River. The hike is quite a ways especially given the red sand. We will go back when our kids are older and can make the journey a bit easier.

“Famous Horseshoe Bend very photogenic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Loved the reward after only a very short hike. Lots of photo ops of a very photogenic sight. Also quite exciting when you're on the edge. I wouldn't take small children - very hard to keep them away from the edge and there were several times when my heart popped into my mouth when a couple of kids decided to bolt from their parents. “Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Bring water, wear good shoes (flip flops and high heels don't work in the sand) It's better in the morning or afternoon because of the heat. Take your time enjoying the wiew on top, but watch your step :)

“Horseshoe Bend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Wonderful experience, breathtaking view, best to go early morning or just before sunset in the summer, otherwise it's very HOT. Wear good shoes, flip flops don't cut it walking through the sand. Pictures turn out fabulous. Watch children around the edge. As on any hike take water. There are no facilities so make sure you take what you need, snacks, water, etc.
