“Worth the drive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Hank with his magic flute was wonderful. He took the time to make sure we all had great photos and understood why they were great. The blue "other" company I wouldn't waste your time on. Our group had 6 people in it so hank was able to do the more 1 on 1 teaching without feeling rushed. Hands down I would recommend this tour for anyone! It's worth it!

“professional tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Overland had suburbans to take you to the canyon instead of open large trucks to drive on the dusty bumpy road. The tour guides were very knowledgeable. The walk thru the Anelope slot canyon was fasinating. The guide helped us taking pictures showing the curves and lighting against the walls. The tour leaves from the office in Page.

“Canyon X is Xtra-Special for photography buffs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

If you are like me, ever since you saw your first photo of one of the Page slot canyons, you have wanted to go! The colors and forms are just so fabulous.
We took a tour with Charlie of Overland Canyon Tours of Canyon X recently, the day after touring Lower Antelope Canyon on our own. The difference was astounding! I am an enthusiastic but very amateur photographer, and going with Charlie was the way to go.
First, even with the 2 hour photographer's pass, there is a tour going by you every 15 minutes in Lower Antelope Canyon, so it is hard to set up your shots properly. Also, there is sand sifting down from overhead, which gets in your camera even if you keep it in a plastic bag between shots. We were in Canyon X for 5 hours absolutely by ourselves (the four of us and Charlie) with no interruptions whatsoever. Had a nice picnic lunch, too.
Second, I only had limited advice on how to shoot in advance of our Lower Antelope Canyon visit from friends, so I shot it all at a fairly high speed using a tripod. There are lots of missed shots. Charlie taught me much better techniques which will capture the range of light conditions in the canyon by using quite long exposures at low speeds. They will be blended with an HDR program. He is a professional photographer and great, patient coach.
As to the canyons themselves, Lower Antelope Canyon is much bigger than Canyon X and easier to get in to. You do have to climb the ladders in and out of Lower Antelope Canyon, but you have to scramble down to get to the entrance of Canyon X. We did not go at all to Upper Antelope Canyon because of the crowds, but I am told you can just walk in to it.
It is always wonderful to have an experience with someone who is passionate about his art, and I had that with Charlie at Overland Canyon Tours. You will be very happy dealing with Brenda in the office as well. She's a gem. Check out Charlie's work at Butterfly Galleries in Page.

“Spectacular canyon, great vehicles & great guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were recommended this company from a traveller we met at Bryce Canyon. We booked in the morning for the 2.15 trip (we had been told that this later tour is likely to be less crowded- prime time is the midday trip and many more people) only 8 in our group which is great- but you share the canyon with many many other groups - our guide Jackie was very enthusiastic and helped set up fantastic photos - she knew the exact spots, camera angles and could advise on the specific camera settings required to achieve a great photo. Apparently the morning tours have better light but the downside is that the crowds are far worse so overall we were very happy with our selection. The other good feature about this company is the fully enclosed standard/regular 4 wheel drive vehicles- although it wasn't too hot on the day we visited, I was grateful to not have to experience the elements first hand i.e. the red dust like I saw the open vehicle passengers experiencing - some of those passing had dust masks on- not sure if they are supplied by those other companies in anticipation of a face-full of dust or whether some savvy travellers just happen to come prepared! I would recommend this company. Btw it's opposite the Mobil service station - we ran a little bit late cos we couldn't find them despite driving up and down the rd 2 or 3 times!

“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We took a 10:15 tour. There were 7 of us in the group with Bill as our guide. The ride out to the canyon was comfortable and there was bottled water for us. Yes, it was crowded at the canyon. But Bill kept us close so he could point out features and he was incredibly helpful with our cameras. It was certainly worth the price to be in a smaller group. The canyon is amazing and I would recommend this tour to all.
