“Best in West Glacier”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2010

We stayed in room 75 with a fantastic view of Lake McDonald. The staff was awesome, giving us extra coffee and shampoo. The toilet flapper leaked and they fixed it within an hour. Our two nights here were just what we hoped for: great views, lots to do, friendly staff, nice rooms, and quiet guests.

This place is situated with the most jaw dropping view. Looking out your bedroom window is like looking at a big postcard. You're looking at beautiful Lake MacDonald with the Rockies behind. It's definitely the best location I've ever seen for accomodation. The view is enough of a reason to stay here. Everythin else was fine too but even if it wasn't I'd still stay here. Class location!!

I was nervous about booking this reservation but there were no rooms available at any of the Glacier Park hotels. It's not the Price of Wales hotel but it is steps away from Lake McDonald inside Glacier Park. Rooms are small with no TV's internet, or WiFi. (which is the case for most of the hotels in the park). However, the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and efficient and it is in the center of Apgar village. Thus it is convenient to restaurant and shopping. This is basic motel or cabin accommodations but at a great price in an incredible location. Real good value.

Every room in this hotel has a full view of Lake McDonald. Those on the first floor have a door that opens directly to the shoreline. We chose a room with two double beds and kitchenette. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had stove, frig and adequate cooking and eating utensils plus a table and benches. The location was perfect for hiking, boating and near the shuttle bus service. While this is far from a luxurious inn, it was perfect for those who choos to spend most of their time exploring beautiful West Glacier Park.

We had an outstanding experience at the Village Inn. Operated by the park’s designated vendor, the Village Inn is located on the shores of Lake McDonald. All rooms face the lake, offering an unparalleled view of the lake and its surrounding mountains. The rooms are small but perfectly adequate and very, very clean. Furnishings are older but very well maintained. Our room included a small coffee maker with coffee and tea.

Apgar is a very quiet, relaxed, and friendly village. It includes services administered by the park as well as by private vendors. The area is incredibly easy to navigate by foot and includes a variety of shops and at least two restaurants (with very affordable, decent food). Apgar is about 10 miles south of the northern end of Lake McDonald, where you’ll find another lodge and the dock for boat tours. One of the reasons we opted to stay at the Village Inn was its proximity to rafting companies outside the gates of the West entrance to the park. We were able to easily leave the park to raft without driving endless miles. It’s also a fabulous starting point for exploring Glacier National Park, including the drive on Going-to-the-Sun Road.

We stayed only two nights before moving on to Many Glacier Hotel for another three nights. More than once, we wished we had stayed longer at the Village Inn. The wildlife viewing and hiking around Many Glacier was fantastic and, in the end, made up for the deficits of the hotel. But if you are not interested in extensive hiking, plan to stay at the Village Inn and only schedule a day trip to the area around Swiftcurrent Lake and Many Glacier Hotel. The hotel and its services were very disappointing in contrast to the Village Inn.

I don’t know if it was pure luck or the norm, but the folks who stayed at the Village Inn were very quiet and respectful of others. All rooms include 2 lovely deck chairs outside the room to sit and view the lake. At all hours of the day and evening, guests sat quietly to either read or take in the view. Only once did we hear some rambunctious kids who were quickly quieted by their parents.

I don’t believe the property offers an elevator, so if stairs are a problem, be sure to request a first floor room.

Another "in the park" accommodation that is overpriced. This 34 room motel is old. However, the rooms were fairly clean and compared to the Many Glacier Lodge, were huge. A good location, but overly expensive. No phone, No TV. Great view. The rooms (6 total of 34) with kitchenettes were good. Bathrooms were spacious and clean. No amenities. Pick something outside the park that is more modern, less expensive, and the 3 or 4 miles extra you might have to drive to get into the park is worth it.

Basic accommodation, but this really is a room with a view!

No TV, no wifi, but not expensive and most places with a view this good from your balcony would be treble the price!

Nothing wrong with the room, quite comfortable and adequately furnished although not very modern.
