“A true small town cafe: delicious, homey places like this are a dying breed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

On the day after Christmas lots of families and couples young and old were coming in for a simple meal. Most people seemed to know each other and the staff. An old dude with a beautiful mustache gave us a welcoming wave when we out-of-towners wandered in. Inspirational posters on the wall, scuffed formica tabletops and fast, friendly service.

The menu has both Mexican/New Mexican specialties and American diner classics and people seemed to be ordering equally from both. I had a platter with red chile beef, beans and rice. Partner had a combo with taco, enchilada and chile relleno. Basic food done well, served fresh and fast! The chile relleno was a thing of beauty, giant roasted green chile filled with cheese and coated in an fluffy eggy batter. His combo also came with whole wheat sopapillas and a jar of honey to drizzle: transcendent fried dough. I considered changing our travel route so we could pass back through Silver City and try the chicken fried steak or the hot roast beef sandwich!

“Food was pretty good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

We stopped in for lunch while wandering through the downtown shops. I can't say that the wait staff was over friendly or helpful with the menu items. Our order was misunderstood and we never received all we had asked for - but overall the food was good - the salsa a bit too thin.

“Pleasant, low-key place for breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

The green chile on my Eggs Ranchero was so good I ordered a separate cup of it. (They make it with some pieces of beef in it, so I picked that out.) This is Southwest home-style cooking. Very good coffee ... I had three cups. Guy behind us wore his cowboy hat through the meal. Booth in front of us occupied by two local women, a mother and daughter; four different women came out of the kitchen to greet them. It's a local joint where tourists are welcome and treated respectfully.

“A good small town cafe...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

This place is a very good small town cafe with some very good food and so-so service. It is popular and dependable. The menu is heavily weighted toward (New) Mexican favorites, but they do pretty good on cafe standards like hot beef sandwiches and chicken fried steaks as well. Not a place we'd travel far to visit - but if we are hungry while wandering on Bullard, we won't hesitate to grab a meal here.

“Service Was off.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

We went in for lunch. We were seated and given salsa, chips and water by a girl who did not say one word to us. Other tables walked in AFTER us and sat down and were treated in the same silent treatment. The only bumbling waitress messed up a to-go order three times. Then took another walk-in's order and still we were being ignored. She finally went to the last two tables that walked in and took their orders. NOT ONCE did she greet us or even offer to refill our waters. After twenty minutes of being ignored we left. And the place is super small so it is not like she did not know we were there. I will not go back and I do not recommend wasting your time. Go next door to a real restaurant.
