“You don't have to be dead to visit HELL”

Do not EVER, EVER, EVER get into this horrible place. All the comments here are ABSOLUTELY true, trust me: One of my friends took a picture of the hall and a 70year old dirty and smelly man told us the next time we took a picture he will SLIT OUR THROATS!!! I went to spend a week to NYC with a couple of friends and this was for sure the WORST EXPERIENCE IN OUR LIFES. There was a sign at reception saying "nobody could spend there more than 2weeks", I guess its purpose was to mislead police because dozens of homeless, drug dealers and hookers actually lived there. Thanks god we were 3guys and we helped each other keeping an eye while the others had a shower cause I don't wanna know what kind of things could happen to you if you're alone... I never felt so dirty and potentially infected in all my live. It's a dump, People is rude, BEDBUGS are all over the place(1week after coming back to Spain I still had bites and scars al over my body) and homeless prepare their meals at the bathroom. You will never feel more insecure in all your entire life: Our first night(and should had been the last one) there was a fight next to my "door" were a few guys wanted to beat a woman who was supposedly entering the rooms...Of course, there are not rooms!!!Vietkong cells had to be much more cosy!!!There is no ceiling so everybody can look at you, you don't have enough room for opening your suitcase, the average temperature at night is at least 110Farenheit, the walls of the "cages" are so thin that seem to be made of paper and the train tracks are a couple of meters from the building so you can't sleep for more than 5minutes,then you can pray for another 5 and try to sleep another 5mins again... We read a few comments on the internet before arriving the place advising where we were going, we laughed and hoped not to be serious, trust me it WAS!!! Do not EVER EVER...EEEEEEVER get in there(and of course if you are a girl or if you are going to NY with your girlfriend do not even think about it, if they don't kill you she will do for sure...)ALL the comments here are absolutely true and Internet booking pages should immediatly remove this hostel from their lists. I have some pictures of the place and of my bitten arms and as soon as I can I will upload them. Hope its useful.

“Homeless shelter offered to tourists”

Don´t get it wrong this is not a hostel it's a HOMELESS SHELTER were men over fifty and a few hookers live on a permanent basis.
The rooms are so little your backpack doesn´t fit. The place is dirty, filthy all over and feels totally unhealthy. Bed bugs are welcomed along the homeless people. The noise from the subway tracks is too loud to let you sleep, now add people shouting and disputes all over the night.
Being a female solo traveller I would NEVER EVER STAY THERE, I was afraid the whole night fearing someone would break into my thin-as-paper walled room, I felt really insecure, left after 1 night having paid for two. Please stay away from this place, it's not a hostel is hell on earth. The most terrifying experience I have ever had.

“Which came first, the bugs or the guests?”

So, looking for a NY getaway on the cheap? Have I got a suggestion for you! The streets, or hey, just ride the subway all night. Even the internet wouldn't want to publish pictures of my feet, legs, arm or back, due to the insane amount of bedbug bites I have on me. In roughly 72 hours, I was able to get about 9 hours of sleep. The room is smaller than your closet. "I don't have a closet" you say? It's still bigger! My first night, it was roughly 90 plus degrees in there. But that was the comfortable part. The ceiling is a screen door. There was a guy constantly sitting right outside my room who looked like the evil love child of Mickey Rourke and Gary Busey. The gent "sleeping next to my room, loved to wake up at 5 every morning and hock phlegmies for an hour or so straight. And that is when he stopped snoring. He also liked to cut some long gas passages, the last one I clocked at roughly 23 seconds. My guess, he was no more wanting to use their bathroom than I or the rats were. The rats, you don't see them so much as hear them, and I think they were weary of the surroundings as well. The guests, many of them residents. The ladies were kind of nice, because they're hookers namely. The evil creep behind the cage was somehow in cahoots with them. One guy likes to sit in the lobby and sleep and drool ropes. I also saw him going into the bathroom, his pants were not part of the deal, but he did have his hands over his crotch and buttocks as the bathroom trip clearly got started before he could get there. The shower was scary, and if you can sit on their toilets, you will likely get leprosy. And then, the bedbugs. Oh, the bedbugs are RAMPANT! In my 8 to 9 hours of sleep over three days, I was able to get hundreds, yes hundreds of bites. And I never once pulled back the sheets. No one offered to wash or change them, so you can still see my bloodstains if you go now. It is not just that they have bedbugs, they are the SOURCE of the bedbugs. NY is supposed to be having an issue with them, and if the D.O.H. would stop accepting bribes, and burn the place down, then burn the ashes, the bedbug problem would likely end. Not just in NY, but the whole wide world. Seriously folks, graveyards are a less creepy place to sleep. They don't mention their name on Craigslist, but it is the $30 ad with the tiny bed. It's so bad, you may just want to avoid Brooklyn altogether. I'm going to go write a horror movie about the place, and you know what? None of it would be fiction.

“Fear and Loathing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2010

This is the most awful place I have ever been in in my life. We stayed there for one night and were so terrified we had to move. Everything the reviews say about this place is true...it is a crack den full of criminals, bed bugs, prostitutes, mental patients...There is no roof in the rooms and literally would rather sleep on the streets. I am sure Brooklyn is an amazing place but anyone who would stay here would not want to ever ever visit Brooklyn again. Hostel bookers should take this place off their site...It is obviously a halfway house for ex criminals and the owner has decided to squeeze some extra money from tourists by promoting it as a traveller friendly hostel. IT IS NOT. We were awoken by some drug dealers shouting about their forthcoming deal. No one here has mentioned the TRAIN TRACKS which are right next to the room. It is the worst place anyone could stay and it seriously needs addressing. People joke about how bad this place is, probably to deal with how traumatised they are from staying here, but seriously if a young girl (or boy) ended up here alone something really bad could happen. DO NOT STAY HERE OR BELIEVE THE [-] description that it gives you on hostel world.
