We needed to stay in Brooklyn and found a Special Rate of $99 for this hotel .
Because it was pretty new I figured "How Bad could it be ?"
As we got closer to the address I though " Oh ! What are we in for here?" Industrial Buildings, used tire stores etc. and lots of graffiti.

Our room was in the basement.......I kid you not. It was tiny and the small skinny high window looked out at the tires and headlights of cars in the tiny parking lot which they charged for but you could park on the street instead if you wanted.

The room was clean but housekeeping never replaced the coffee supplies and I had to go each day to ask for more.

My key repeatedly did not work and after being out all day it was so frustrating to get down to my dungeon room and not be able to get in. This happened at least 4 times.

One morning one of our "neighbors" were smoking pot and we were woke up to management in the hallway talking to the offenders and the smell drifting into our room.

There are no restaurants or stores to walk to.

If you want to stay in Brooklyn it's not a bad place to stay
if you just want a place to sleep and if you won't need to eat or shop in the area.

I thought the last place I stayed in Brooklyn was poor... When booked room asked for King, NS, frig. All news to the girl at check-in, though it is stated on my confirmation slip. They don't offer fridges, but now that I'm in the room I can see why. You'd have to elevate the bed to fit one in. As I type I can hear the guy in the next room cough.
OK for one night, but if for more than one person or more than one night, sleep in the park ( won't have to pay for parking that way either!).

Room actually looks bigger in pics than it feels!

Stayed at this hotel because I could not get a good rate in Manhattan. First time staying in Brooklyn, and I was looking forward to it. Walked to the hotel from subway at Pacific and 4th. Long walk through a neighborhood that became more desolate and unattractive as I got closer to the hotel. Warehouses with graffiti, boarded up buildings. I grew up in Detroit, and enjoy the rough areas of cities, but I was uncomfortable.

The staff was friendly. The room was small and the bathroom was not clean - hair in sink and tub. I was on a no smoking floor, but the room next door had smokers who lighted up by 5:30 every morning. I complained but nothing was done.

Long walk to any subway. Cabs as you may know them in Manhattan do not exist. When I asked the front desk to get a cab to go to the airport, an unmarked minivan showed up. No medallion or indication of a cab company.

Carroll Gardens area is a 10-15 minute walk, with beautiful brownstones and shops and restaurants. I also did stumble upon a wonderful old bar, The Brooklyn Inn, as I was walking back to the hotel from a subway station.

The area feels unsafe, with no restaurants or attractions within blocks of the hotel. Yes, it is an inexpensive place to sleep, with rates in Manhattan climbing to unreasonable levels. But, be prepared - this is not a place for families or those not comfortable in an urban setting. I will not stay here again.

“nice place to crash, iffy location”

I booked this hotel sight unseen on hotwire.com and got a great deal. It was a last minute booking, and I needed a place to crash for one night on a weekend. The hotel itself gets two thumbs up as a budget hotel - it was US standards clean, friendly, modern, and comfortable. My room was small and met my expectations- bed, dresser, bathroom with tub, TV, coffeemaker, desk with small chair. It's a new hotel, opened in April of 2007, and is not run-down. The linens were clean and the TV had basic, non-premium channels. Yes, there was a free breakfast which was coffee and juice, pastries and bagels, boiled eggs, cereal, and waffles you could cook yourself. the staff were very friendly, and my room was ready on time - check in is at 2 and checkout is no later than 12.

Now. that being said, yes. The location is not so great. the hotel is located in an industrial area a block behind the Wycliff Gardens and Gowanus housing projects. I felt relatively safe walking around there during the day - everybody seemed busy there, and I didn't see many people loitering around. I saw old people going in and out of the project housing, families, and people speaking Spanish waiting for the bus. A block beyond the projects were brownstone apartments and trendy shops. The neighborhood around the projects seems to be gentrifying.

the nearest subway is about 10 blocks away on Nevins and/or flatbush. If walking to this hotel from the subway, I'd take Nevins street to Wyckoff, or a block before, and then cut over to third street (take any cross street left) and then take a right on Butler to the comfort inn - it's less deserted.

If I were traveling to New York w/o a car again, and wanted to enjoy Manhattan night life and be free to come back to the hotel late at night, I probably wouldn't stay here again. But for a weekend shopping/musuem trip where I'm out and about during the day only, it's fine and I'd stay there again for the hotwired price! It was a good deal.

“Lovely Comfort”

New York
Jan 2, 2008

My Boyfriend and I went to the Comfort Inn during New Years Eve. Like the other reviews, I did find the room to be small, but comfortable for two people. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable.

The Breakfast area had enough room for about ten to thirteen people and the food was pretty good. They had bagels, waffles, coffee ( which was tasty!), cereal, and other pastries. They also have different restaurants that you can walk to ( 15-20 min walk) or order in.

The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was spotless. I had a good time at this location and would come back again.

I did find the area to be desolate, but being from New York this didn't scare me much.
