“Best B & B in Brooklyn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

Want to sleep well, really enjoy a lovely tree shaded Victorian neighborhood, and be hosted grandly? Well then stay at Loralei. From the minute you walk in the door, sense the welcoming ambiance of the home, and are warmly greeted by your host, Robert, you will be happy you are calling this your home away from home. We've stayed at several B & Bs in Brooklyn over the years and this is by far the very best. And the convenience to the Q/B train stop makes back and forth travel to Manhattan so easy. Enjoy!

We absolutely loved the place. Clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and respectful of privacy. Our host Robert was very keen to share valuable informations on local attractions and tips for visiting NYC. We found it really easy to travel wherever we wanted to go at any time. The 5 mins walk to the train station is easy and full of interesting cultural and architechtural marvels. The breakfast was always fresh and healthy and the coffee strong- just how we like it! 2 thumbs up.

Want to visit NYC? Then the best place to stay you'll find is the Loralei B&B in Brooklyn! The neighbourhood is just wonderful and the Q train takes you in just a few minutes to Manhattan. The house is very beautiful and well kept, the same with the rooms. They are nice decorated and comfortable. Also the breakfast is great. But the soul of this B&B is Robert, who is incredible friendly and helpful! I would definetly return to this place!

The Loralei is a very clean, very convenient, older home in Brooklyn located on a mostly quiet street (the birds sang pretty loudly) situated 3 or 4 blocks from a main subway stop (some trains do not stop at all stops-this is a main stop). There is limited off-street, driveway parking. (The experience described by Vel122 had the same "feel" as our stay.)

Our room, the Gramecy, was generous in size with a private bathroom.

Rob's breakfasts were just right. When travelling I tend to eat light, so Rob's breakfasts were more than satisfying. Coffee, fresh breads, cheeses, a variety of fruits and cereals...and more.

The table included breakfast sweets and also flavorful jams. Rob seemed to generally go for the healthy choices.

Rob was a great host who went out of his way to make our visit enjoyable. On a prior visit to New York City we had seen the usual sites so were were pleased when Rob took the time to talk with us about the other places to visit as well as providing excellent directions on how to get to our previously planned activities. We had tickets to a television show in the city. Rob's directions got us within a block and a half of the television studio via the subway. The "High Line" gardens were a wonderful "find". We visited MoMA to view a rare historic film. And we enjoyed a stroll through the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.

On this visit we avoided the freeways during the day and found that we could make reasonably good time by taking city streets, especially when going north and south in Brooklyn. At one point we used the GPS map feature to just wander around going N, S, E, W in general directions. Our greatest problem was bicycle riders. Though I attempt to be attentive to my driving, on two occasions, as I was making a right turn with signal on, a bicyclist passed on the right, recklessly and at high speed. On the other hand, on this trip we found the automobile drivers to be very courteous!

My only hesitance in giving the Loralei 5 stars is the concern that on our next visit we will find the tired and huddled masses will have abandoned their hotels in the city to find respite at the Loralei, making it harder to get a reservation.

We stayed in this bed and breakfast for four days. The welcome was very pleasant. We got a bottle of water and an explanation about the b&b and the neighbourhood. The room we had (Gramercy) is really big and nicely decorated. The breakfast can compete with a five star hotel. The main reason in the first place to choose this b&b was because it's located in a quiet neighbourhood and the positive comments on tripadvisor. Now, we can truly say, it's a great b&b. Next time when we visit nyc we would definatelly book this b&b again.

Stayed in this property in December 2010

I was so lucky to find this little gem after months of research on the internet. For a reasonable $150 per night this is probably one of the nicest places you will find in New York City for this price.

The property is located in a quite neighbourhood in Brooklyn and it's about 20 minutes away on the subway from downtown New York.

The double room where I stayed was really huge, the furniture was lovely and the bathroom was beautiful. You do get a nice breakfast in the morning and they also provide luggage storage if you happen to have a late flight

Highly recommended

I've stayed at the Loralei a few times a year for about 5 years or so. I have business in Brooklyn and Manhattan so it's a great location for me. I get to park my car in the driveway and take the subway into Manhattan! So much easier than driving into the city. I was there again in late January and stayed in the Gramecy Suite where there is lots of space and a spacious en suite bathroom. The house is beautiful, Rob will help you carry your bags up the stairs to the second floor and the house and rooms are immaculate. Rob is a wonderful person who I really enjoy talking with in the morning. Plus, he is very helpful with directions, restaurants, etc. The internet connection is very quick and appreciated since I am there on business. Rob has also been very accommodating to my food requirements since I am celiac and require gluten free food. At my last visit he had found some gluten free crackers at a local food co-op. They're quite good with the cheese and fruit. I highly recommend this B&B for business or a vacation.
