Not only should you visit Green-wood Cemetary, but you should join (the fee is very modest), which entitles you to great updates about events. An example from their current on line newsletter -
"This Saturday, we're proud to welcome Currier and Ives expert Robert Newman to Green-Wood. Newman is a third generation print virtuoso, and his family has owned The Old Print Shop on Lexington Avenue since the 1920s. In our Historic Chapel, Newman will unravel the story of these immensely popular printers, both of whom are buried in Green-Wood. He'll also bring along some examples of Currier and Ives' fantastic work, so you can see the magic for yourself! Following Newman's talk, join him and Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman for a trolley tour with stops at the graves of Currier, Ives, and other artists from the
firm -- including Fannie Palmer, the only woman printmaker in an otherwise all-male enterprise! Now that's definitely something to celebrate"
The place is a wonderful respite from the city, the staff are friendly and helpful (they also give away great mulch) and they sponsor terrific tours - the place, and the people who are buried there, simply fascinates
