“THE BEST pizza in New York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

This place is quite an experience. It really doesn't look like much from the outside but it is one of the iconic Brooklyn pizza places and definitely worth the experience. An old man hand makes each pizza. He used to pump out a lot more - he has slowed down over the years, closing on some days and for 2 hours in the late afternoon to take a break. We wanted to go there as quickly as possible as this man is getting up there in age and we didn't know how much longer he is going to be making pizzas. There is a woman there who helped take orders but this old man literally handles every single pizza from beginning to end. The bad part is that just getting one pizza takes forever. We went on a slow day, had to wait to put in an order, and then had to come back in 2 hours to pick it up. The seating inside is limited and bare basics. Nothing fancy or even comfortable - if I hadn't gotten lucky and caught someone on their way out, I would have probably been angry that I waited so long and would have to eat a pizza standing up. That being said, the pizza was FANTASTIC. Each bite was so different. Some were all tomato, some were more cheesy (loved the parmesan on top), some bites had more of a basil flavor (fresh basil is cut on top of the margarita pizza)... there were so many levels of flavor. I could have eaten the whole pie myself. I would have ordered more if not for the whole ordeal of ordering. Definitely worth experiencing - and go quickly as there is no telling how much longer you will be able to enjoy this unique experience!

“All hype and history. Not pizza”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

All right, let's get down to the facts. Di Fara has been living on legend for years (I live in the neighborhood), and in my view has somehow hoodwinked the press and the neighbors, giving them the audacity to charge the highest price ($5) for a slice of pizza in all of NYC. The novelty and romance of DiFara is the fact that it has had a single pizza maker (Dominic DeMarco) for over 40 years, or something like that. Dominic is a wonderful gentleman, his pizza is not. DiFara makes a thin crust, average, oily pie. Average sauce. He often sprinkles on Romano or Parmesan (whether you ask or not) and some fresh-grown herbs. There are always lines outside the shop, to pay 5 bucks a slice, to see the legend. What they get is a poor pizza. Much better elsewhere.

“Best pizza. Ever.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Firstly yes Di Fara will never win any awards for its decor and yes it's an effort to get there and yes there will be lines. Who cares, the end result is fabulous, perfect crust, great fresh ingredients. I didn't order a full pie - it may be cheaper to do that if you're in a grouo but there were only two of us and the full size pizzas are huge. BTW the slices are strongly flavoured with basil so if that's not your thing I'd avoid.

“Our absolute favorite pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Completely different from my second choice (Totono's), Di Fara offers a slice of pure messy bliss. You'll first wonder how so many people can wait so long for a slice of pizza, but if watching the spectacle doesn't answer your question the first blissful bite will.

“Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

you will wait an hour to order and an hour for your order. Worth every minute. this is the new york experience and when you take that first bite of pizza you'll understand why you ventured out so far into Brooklyn. Don't get a slice, no matter the price you'll want the full pie.
