“I love this place and you should too.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

There little to say about this place but a lot to see. The neighborhood is small but you shouldn't be going to explore the neighborhood but to see the beautiful view of the city by the river edge. Go at night and just seat down and enjoy the view. Another great thing is that isn't bombarded by tourist.

“one of ny's most interesting neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

DUMBO's history is incredible. walk from the F train down water street to the pier and you've passed four centuries of history in 20 minutes. George washington's troops escaped the british from the pier in the battle of brooklyn. the dutch ran a ferry from the pier in the 1600s. walt whitman - whose poem crossing brooklyn ferry - is engraved in the railing of the pier, worked in the brooklyn eagle building directly up fulton street. the brooklyn bridge was an engineering marvel and the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened in the 1880s - builder john roebling was mortally injured while standing on the pier (a ferry crashed into his foot and he got gangrene) so he did not live to see the bridge completed, but notice the pattern that the elegant cables make - the filigree - the elegance of the design. the bridge seems alive, organic. remember that he modeled the arches on the great cathedrals of europe because he wanted this to be a majestic monument to industry, just as the cathedrals were a monument to religion. and while you're there - have some chocolate at jacques torres on water street! the truffles are to die for. and dont forget the beautiful carousel!

“So fun to explore!”

Quaint shops and eateries. Fun sights. Always a great time exploring this as it is always changing. Some merchants we ran into gave us great advice on places to eat!

“Best view of Manhattan on a sunny day.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Dumbo has the best small park for viewing Manhattan. There is plenty of food to eat on grassy slopes. The views are framed by the Broolyn and Manhattan bridges. There are places for kids to play and a carousel. This is why I gave Dumbo five stars.

The food court next to the park would also get five stars. There is a huge variety of open air food stalls. I had some of the best oysters I've had in a long time and everyone seemed to be happily eating the food of their choice.

It might also get five stars for the many art galleries, but I was there on Sunday and only a few were open. I plan to go back on a Saturday to see them.

The neighborhood buildings are non-descript commercial buildings. Not much to look at.

Dumbo is next to Brooklyn Heights so both can be visited in a long morning or afternoon.
Suggestion. Stroll Brooklyn Heights on a weekend morning and hit Dumbo for lunch.

“Fun shops - great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Spent a few hours here on a Sunday morning. Loved the food vendors at the Tobacco Warehouse and the shops (some were closed because it was the weekend).
