“Great find in NY!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2010

My wife and I spent 2 nights in the Super 8 and thought it was great. we arrived by car and found a spot direectly in front of the hotel. There was plenty of free parking around the hotel too. The street the entrance is on looks a little industrial but one street behind the hotel (4th street) has restaurants and bars. and if yu cross the canal opposite the hotel there is a beautiful neighborhood with shops and restaurants. A short walk and worth it!
The hotel seems very new and the rooms, although a bit small were clean and comfortable. And quiet too. Directly below our window was an enormous air condition unit but when the window was closed we couldn't hear it at all. The bathroom was fine with plenty of hot water.
The front desk were also helpful with directions and recommendations. We thought the hotel was a bargain and would definately stay there again.

My son and his family live in Carroll Gardens. It's always expensive to visit. However, this little gem in Brooklyn has made it more convenient and affordable. If you are looking for luxury, this place is not for you. But, if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, very small room where you won't be spending much time anyway, except to sleep, you can find a cleaner place and more responsive staff. Plus, they have free parking!

First of all, terrible neighborhood with plywood up to whole areas. Second, bed was miserably hard. Third, slipped and fell hitting head in shower, no shower/tub mat. But the worse is that around 4 AM woke to horrible scream, banging doors, someone running around in halls and swearing. Went to window, saw 2 cops cars and ambulance and more on way.
Got dressed, went to front desk around corner, asked cop if we were safe and he ordered us back to our room, told us to lock door and stay in room. Which we did. He then said "this hotel is NOT a safe hotel"
He yelled at the front desk clerk and said "THIS is why we are here every weekend, you buzz in ANYONE without exception"
We packed and left at sunrise. The security Guard told us that someone was robbed at gunpoint and recommended us to leave which we were already doing.
The clerk refused to offer us a refund for the last night we stayed there, even though they failed to provide their customers with a safe environment. We were afraid for our lives. We stayed here for 3 nights, thinking we could park our vehicle there while we went on a cruise. So now we're out that money too and it costs us another $143 to park the vehicle. Also this is not a "cheap' hotel as it cost us $467 for 3 nights.
When I called Super 8, was told that 100% of their hotels are privately owned so they hold no responsibilities whatsoever! Well isn't that nice!!? So the owner refuses to return calls and I truly believe that they don't deserve that room charge for at least the last night. 4 AM wasn't in our plans.
I will never ever stay at another Super 8 again. Pay the extra money and stay in a reputable hotel. I know WE will.
I only WISH we had taken pics of their pitiful parking area. Everything from the back is boarded up and it's a terrible neighborhood. No restaurants nearby that we would recommend. I get sick just thinking about it. I was a bundle of nerves for days after this!

Dear Guest,

We apologize for any inconveniences caused during your stay. The episodes that occurred during your stay are very atypical and management has taken steps towards ensuring that nothing of this nature happens again. Customer service is extremely important to us.

A look at any of our other tripadvisor reviews show our hotel described as "felt safe walking at night", "quietest hotel i've ever stayed at", "hotel very clean", and "staff very friendly". Our hotel is very safe and has not had an incidents to date.

The night that you were here, one of our guests called an ambulance from the room because he felt ill. In NYC, whenever anyone calls an ambulance, the NYPD and FDNY show up as well to do their due diligence. That is why you saw NYPD and Ambulance on the scene. They took the guest to the hospital and we were told that it was caused by food poisoning.

Our hotel has been awarded "Top Value" by Tripadvisor and we are in the 90% of all Super 8 properties (out of 1613 hotels) as voted by our customers. We have also outperformed all economy and midscale hotels in Brooklyn (including Holiday Inn Express, Choice Hotels and Le Bleu Hotel) in customer service, staff friendliness, amenities, cleanliness and intent to return.

Needless to say, episodes like this are out of the control of management. We sincerely apologize for any disturbances that resulted from your unfortunate night and hope to change your mind about our hotel in the near future.

Best kept secret in Brooklyn. My son lives in the neighborhood and mentioned that it had recently opened. We took a chance on it, as the price and location were just what we needed for our over night stay. Room was nice and clean. Continental breakfast was included. It wasn't NY bagels but was presented nicely on their first floor with windows to the street. Limited parking in rear, at no charge. We parked at check-in then did not move the car. The street is not that nice, but walk 2 blocks any way and it really changes for the better. I would certainly stay there again.

Positives: Sparkling clean, very quiet (neighborhood & hotel itself), comfortable bed, friendly employees, decent continental breakfast & reliable wifi, free parking, 1 block from the subway to Manhattan, only a few blocks to nice areas (e.g., Park Slope) all for $110 per night (Priceline rate).

Negatives: Rooms are on the small side. Well who cares, you're in NYC, you're not going to be hanging out in your room!

This place is awesome. I've stayed in several bargain priced hotels all over NYC and none of them beat this one.

This was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in! In addition, the beds were comfortable, rooms were immaculate, and the staff was very friendly and helpful, even taking a significant amount of time to figure out how I could take the subway to the MoMA. They're located a block from a subway station in a quiet area that seems to have virtually no traffic. The continental breakfast was all I needed to start my day. I would come back here in a New York minute!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Super 8. The room was small but met our needs. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Best of all was its proximity to the Metro, only one block away. Continental breakfast was the typical dry cereal and Danish, but if you want a great breakfast, go to Tony Bagelz, across the street and down one block. They just opened a couple months ago and are eager to please with hearty portions and delicious bagels, plus a cute little outdoor eating area out back.
