Expensive area, still the price was a bit steep. Very nice staff, needs drawers, update restaurants!

This is a basic 4-storey no frills hotel with free parking for about 8-9 vehicles. My room was compact with a queen bed, fridge, coffee maker, ironing board, and small wardrobe for hanging clothes. There was a desk but no dresser with draws. So if you stay here, travel light or live out of your luggage. The air conditioning worked well for the size of the room. A decent snack type breakfast was available free each morning in a nook on the 1st level of the hotel. I think this hotel serves best those who have business, family, or friends in this area of Brooklyn. There are many interesting venues within a healthy walking distance of the hotel including the new Barclay's Center, Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, the Botanic Gardens, the BAM complex, and the old Ebbetts Field site. Trendy restaurants and natural food groceries dot the businesses along both 5th and 7th avenues, the major commercial streets. And if you purchase a metro card, one of the most spectacular views or New York Harbor can be had by taking a short subway or bus transfer ride to the Brooklyn Heights promenade (end of Montague St), the new state park just below, and the adjoining DUMBO district. The commute to the city by subway, though, can be tedious because the hotel is by the local "R" subway stop and you'll need to change at least once to an express (Atlantic Avenue, one station north, seems to be one of the largest transfer points for the entire NY subway system). But during late evenings and weekends the subway timetable is altered and travel to and from midtown Manhattan can be very slow, with many trains making only local stops. I took the train twice in the opposite direction to the ocean to visit Coney Island and Brighton Beach. On one afternoon I walked along the old boardwalk and seashore and another evening I returnedabout 8PM to see the lights of the midway and eat a Nathan's hot dog at an hour when I wouldn't have to wait on line. But, remember, should you choose to stay here you'll be in mid-Brooklyn, not the city. And if your intention is to stay in a less expensive hotel and commute back and forth, you might find some of your trips a bit cumbersome.
