“Vanderbilt Suite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

We arrived at the Vanderbilt suite in Forte Green on the 25th December, due to the holidays Mark made arrangements for us to pick up the keys and all went smoothly. The suite itself was lovely, a very comfortable bed and had everything we needed. The decor was in a tasteful classic style. I believe now that the Vanderbilt is no longer on offer. It was very much like having our own apartment in the city, which is exactly what we wanted for a romantic break during the Christmas period. The area itself, Forte Green is a very nice location, and has easy transport links to the city, and within walking distance of many shops, restaurants and cafes. The only minor grumbles were that the WIFI was very patchy, being at the top of the building meant that it would cut in and out and quite often meant sitting at the top of the stairs to try to get a better connection. Also the maid service was a little confusing. In the manual it stated that she would turn up on day 3-4 of your stay, however, We arrived late in the evening on the 25th and she arrived the morning of the 26th, and we didn't see her again throughout our stay until we left on the 31st..

That aside we would definitely recommend staying with Mark at Lefferts Manor and don't hesitate in recommending him.

Fort Greene is our favorite Brooklyn neighborhood. We originally booked the Clermont apartment managed by Mark and the folks at Lefferts Manor. About a week before we were scheduled to arrive we were asked if we minded moving to the Lafayette, a larger place nearer Fort Greene Park at no extra charge. The apartment was terrific. We had a large living room, with a king size bed, a couch and chairs. There was a very functional kitchen, and a dining room. There was another bed in a bedroom that you could use for a visitor at an additional nightly charge. Water pressure in the kitchen an bathroom were great. We arrived early, but we were able to leave our luggage. We returned to a spotless cleaning job. Mark was solicitous: we had a minor problem with heating the first night, but he was on it and it was solved immediately. The apartment is about a 10 minute walk from two different subway stations and 15 minutes from the Atlantic station hub for many of the city wide subway lines. All in all a great place to stay for a Brooklyn Christmas.

I rented one of the Fort Greene apartment for my mother who was visiting. The whole experience was just excellent. From the first call with Mark, the the quality of the apartment and the responsiveness of the team, my mums stay was just great. This is a professionally run outfit who are clear, pleasant and extremely helpful. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

My husband and I spent four nights in the Fenimore Street part of the Lefferts Garden Manor. Our daughter lives a block and a half away so it was very convenient. We rented both the blue room and the rose room because we wanted space and privacy and neither of us is a good sleeper so we had options if needed. Mark greeted us upon arrival and was always available by phone. He could not have been more helpful. We had two rooms with a kitchette and a small bath. For us, it was perfect but it would not have been comfortable to share the space with strangers. Someone stopped by daily to check on things and fluff the bed. It was also one of the very cleanest places we have ever stayed! I am very particular about cleanliness and was delighted to find such excellence in that regard. The rooms were quiet and the windows open, unlike many hotels. We will definitely return on our next visit in the spring!

Room Tip: Check stairs you will need to climb if you have issues that may limit you.

Me and my mother spent 10 days in New York at the end of September (only getting around to write this review now) and stayed the whole time at the Lefferts Manor B&B. I first had another place booked for us but was drawn to this place by its great reviews by previous visitors on Tripadvisor and they certainly weren't wrong.

We stayed in the O'Neal room as it had two separate beds which suited us. The room was lovely with comfy beds, wooden floors, lots of storage space, view to the quiet back garden and things you don't perhaps normally find from a B&B room such as a hair dryer and ironing board. We shared a bathroom on the same floor with one other room and it was fine. Over all the house has character which you won't find in a generic chain hotel or hostel.

The breakfast is optional and you have to pay a little extra for it but it's well worth it. We opted for the breakfast 6 out of 10 mornings (the mornings we wanted to sleep a little later as the breakfast is only served at one set time in the morning). Great coffee (and I don't even normally drink coffee), homemade pancakes some mornings, fruit etc. Truly a great way to start a day! Everyone who has signed up for the breakfast are seated around the same table which is great for meeting others and exchanging tips about what to see and do in the city.

One of the best things about Lefferts Manor B&B is definitely the owner Mark. From the moment when I booked the place and throughout our whole stay he was nothing but helpful and friendly making us feel right at home.

The B&B is a short and safe walk from a metro station which takes you to Manhattan (or other lovely areas in Brooklyn) in no time at all. There's a lovely little cafe, good restaurant and a grocery shop (selling great organic stuff amongst other things) located right besides the metro station. Also the lovely Prospect park is walking distance from the B&B. On the other side of the park are Brooklyn's 5th and 7th Avenues which are full of great restaurants, bars and little shops. And don't forget to visit the Brooklyn flea market on saturdays. It's a great place to find some not so usual souvenirs to bring home.

Overall we had an excellent stay at the Lefferts Manor B&B and would gladly stay there again when in New York the next time as would we warmly recommend it to others!

My wife and I were coming to New York for a few days after being in Boston for a wedding. We needed some place convenient, comfortable, and hopefully a little quite. We found it in Lefferts Manor. While we arrived in the evening, Mark met us at the door, helped us get squared away, and made sure we knew where to find key things -- like the nearest subway station, a good small grocery, and amenities of the B&B. With the coffee maker right there, a section of coffees and teas (plus hot chocolate), and a refrigerator for cold stuff, it was perfect. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom (with a claw foot tub) cute, and it was about a 5 minute walk to the B & Q lines. Our last day, we dropped off the bags, finished running around Brooklyn and made it back in time for one more cup of tea and catching the car service to Newark and a non-stop home. We would definitely consider staying at Lefferts Manor again. Great place. Great value. Great time.

Room Tip: Get a room large enough to have a seating area.

A perfect hideaway to experience both: The vibrant Manhattan and the quiet neighborhood including the prospect park. Lovely designed rooms. Friendly and relaxed owners. Thanx for a perfect week. I would definitely stay here the next time again.
