Owner description: The New York Transit Museum, one of the city's leading cultural institutions, is the largest museum in the United States devoted to urban public transportation history, and one of the premier institutions of its kind in the world. The Museum explores the development of the greater New York Metropolitan region through the presentations of exhibitions, tours, educational programs, and workshops dealing with the cultural, social, and technological history of public transportation. Since its inception over a quarter century ago, the Museum, housed in a historic 1936 IND subway station in Brooklyn Heights, has grown in scope and popularity. As custodian and interpreter of the region's extensive public transportation networks, the Museum strives to share, through its public programs, this rich and vibrant history with local, regional, and international audiences.

“Hidden Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

What a great museum! Truly a hidden gem in NYC-I've lived in Brooklyn for 10 years and had no idea.

Fun and relaxed setting, and great adult tour. Will be going back!

“Easy to Use; Many stops”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

This transit system takes you to where you want to be. We fly from Miami to JFK, take the train to Time Square and back, with much ease.

“Worth the subway trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

If you like trains it's worth the trip. The museum is near the downtown area of Brooklyn- an area being gentrified in The last few years. Transit museum offers many neat photo ops. If you have a little boy they would love it.

“Subway Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

A little difficult to find but eventually got there. Quite an impressive array of subway cars which have been used throughout the years. The museum itself, is situated in a disused subway station which adds to the experience. A full pictorial and written history of the subway is available along with a small cinema area. I think to get the full benefit you would really have to have an interest in underground trains. Still, an interesting couple of hours.

“Great!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

I really enjoyed this museum. We visited on a whim because the air in Brooklyn was too cold to be outside. It was wonderful. So much I just didn't know about the underground system and the beginning of the subways. It was fascinating. It was cool seeing the old train cars too! I'm so glad we came across it
