What a find! This brownstone, within steps of a great subway stop, the Brooklyn Museum, the botanic garden, shops (wine, groceries, cheese) and restaurants, is operated by a family that lives on site. The two adult sons were very helpful, writing out directions for a museum in Manhattan, offering a personal cell number and encouraging us to call if we had any questions while out and about, and volunteering to call, to confirm that a car service (recommended by them and a very reasonable $30 to take us to LaGuardia airport) was on time. Some cabbies picking up passengers at the airports are not very familiar with Brooklyn (and not all NY cabs have GPS or map software on the cabbie's phone), but the directions to the B&B on their website were helpful, and we were glad we had printed them, along with maps. The downstairs room (Arches) was spacious and cool, during a very hot spell in June 2013. Lovely private bath, with tiled shower, plenty of towels, and hair dryer. Remote-controlled AC unit and ceiling fan that worked very well. Small fridge, writing desk, nice TV, hanging space and shelves for clothes, couch for lounging, and good lights for reading. Very nice bed and linens, too. Breakfast was generous (yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, tea, coffee, juices, bread for toasting, fresh pastries every day) and the father and sons were available, but never intrusive. They offered wine glasses and use of the microwave, to heat leftovers from one night's dinner. They also provided restaurant info and a transit map. (We loved Mayfield's, just a short walk away.). This was a wonderful place to stay, feeling much more like spending time at the home of a friend (with a really nice and super clean guest room!) than at a hotel or over-decorated B&B.
