“Birdwatching near town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013 via mobile

Stopped here while spending a couple days in Fairbanks. Went early morning and only saw a couple other people. Great birdwatching, bring your binoculars. We saw many sandhill cranes as well as some other cranes and many small birds. It was a nice place to take a walk on the trails and see a surprising amount of wildlife.

“A good walk even you see don't sight birds”

An early walk didn't result in any interesting bird sightings but very enjoyable. Visit the house for history of the refuge and inforamation of birds.

“Love the trails”

Very nice nature trail system. Totally recommend going (and throw in a donation!). Take binoculars if you want to see the birds.

“Think very nice city park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

This refuge is close to downtown Fairbanks, so gets a lot of locals jogging, hiking, etc. There are a lot of birds, so good for birders. We did not see any large mammals. Be for sure and bring your mosquito repellant, you will need it.

“Birds, birds, birds!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

I love birds, and I LOVE swans and sandhill cranes, so this place was pretty stinkin' awesome to visit. There were HUNDREDS of cranes when I visited....and more coming in.
If you are big on bird watching, I highly recommend this as a stop for you. Bird geeks everywhere would rejoice at the sound of all of these different and lovely birds in these fields. There is also a little walking trail you can take to get some different views around the field.
The *only* reason I didn't rate this as 'excellent' was that the bathrooms were....icky, and there was quite a bit of garbage around. :-/ Boo on people that litter! And there is not that much of a control on the bathrooms since someone can destroy a bathroom in one swoop. Soooo....if you dig avians, just go!
