I was poking around the internet looking for a place to eat and stumbled across Big Daddy's. I saw where "Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives" had paid it a visit and decided I'd follow Guy Fieri's footsteps. The diner is downtown and an easy walk to most of the downtown area hotels.
The restaurant is a bit dive-y but it's a bbq joint, in Alaska...what else would you want? The staff was great, extremely friendly and helpful and the good was respectable as well.
I had the ribs and chicken combo with baked beans and creamed corn (it doesn't get much more bbq joint than that, does it?). The ribs were very good and I tried a bit of each of the sauces on them. The hot bbq was my favorite with the honey mustard showing a strong second place. The chicken had good flavor but was a bit dry but nothing that the sauce couldn't save.
The sides were tasty as well. The creamed corn was a bit different than any other creamed corn I've ever had and it was good. The beans were full of meat and had a great smoke to them.
I sat at the bar and had great conversation with the bartender and found the staff to be pleasant and fun.
I'd certainly recommend the joint to travelers and locals both. It might not be what you'd find in the south but for being nearly in the Arctic Circle, it'll do just fine!
