“The Pump House is renown in the community for some of the worst service/servers in the city.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

Best to avoid. The decor might intrigue tourists for a first time visit and the shuffle board might bring in regulars, the rest can be forgotten if you're lucky. The Pump House regularly employs servers who don't understand customer service. This is especially true if you get seated in the bar. The servers don't know the menu, leave frozen blended drinks to melt on the on the server station at the bar, go missing for half hour stints and can literally take hours to get drinks, food, and the checks out to customers. While Fairbanks is known for particularly bad customer service here at the end of the road, The Pump House lowers these standards to new levels. And to find out recently a colleague had to go to the hospital with food poisoning after eating the oysters. I wouldn't chance it. It's a shame because their outdoor deck during a sunny summer day can be spectacular but until the ownership figures out staffing, forget it.

“Average, and overpriced!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

Can't say anything really negitive about this place, but not much above average. With the expection of the atmosphere and service. The place is done in neat Alaskan theme. We had a great waitress and the food was served in a timely manner. Sourdough bread was the best part of the meal. This place is way overpriced for the quaility and you have to pay extra for even a salad or bake potatoe.

“"Local" food was great!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

We didn't travel to Fairbanks from the "lower 48" to eat Thai or any run-of-the-mill fare. We traveled t Fairbanks to eat some "local" grub.

And we found it at the Pump House Restaurant. I had the elk meatloaf and my companion had the reindeer tenderloin. Both were surprisingly good (because we expected a gamey-ness that wasn't present). We both shared a side of halibut which was decent, but not what we expected.

For dessert, we both shared the creme brulee which was a little thick for our preference, but was tasty nonetheless.

Service was excellent -- attentive, accommodating! The atmosphere is very cozy, rustic even! Definitely something we would recommend to a visitor to Fairbanks.

“Great Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

Good pub food with character; Food was tasty and wholesome without being exquisite. The restored building has heritage value and authentic antique furniture including 100+ year old pool tables for use. We dined twice; once with pub menu and other using the more expensive dinner menu; both good.
