This is a yarn shop across from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. It has a great selection of Rowan, Classic Elite and other yarns, plus knitting needles and so forth. What makes them unusual is their Musk Ox corner. They have a table covered in a musk ox hide. If you run your hand along the fur it feels rather coarse. But if you reach under these guard hairs, you can feel the soft downy fur. This fur is spun into very warm and soft yarn called qiviut. The shop has a great selection of qiviut scarves knitted by the native peoples. They are true collector items and they are expensive. They also have some unusual musk ox items that I haven't seen anywhere else. My favorite was a beautiful cardigan sweater knit in a combination of qiviut, silk and wool. The design featured little musk oxes in bright colors. It sounds strange but it was charming. If you're a knitter or crocheter they also sell 100% qiviut yarn and qiviut/silk yarn. They also sell local Alaskan yarn brands in colors such as fireweed, and a good selection of books, including some old Dale of Norway classics. The shopkeeper is very friendly and helpful. Even my non-knitting husband was intrigued by the musk ox corner.
