I am a tour director who recently scheduled a LARS tour for my group. Our tour guide, Sally, was enthusiastic and informative. The tour lasted an hour, which was longer than advertised, but we were all engaged the entire time. She was able to get one of the animals to come close to her during the tour so that we could get a closer look, and some great pictures. The tours are only offered on certain days, so it is best to check their website, www.uaf.edu/research/lars. The LARS gift shop sells qiviut (soft musk ox hair) at a lower price than is available elsewhere. There is one porta-potty on site. There is a 200-foot walk to the tour site, but they will transport people who have mobility issues in a cart. This is a very worthwhile experience, and the tour fee supports their research.
