“A wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

We were very warmly welcomed by the Innkeeper Jenny who immediately made us feel at home. Lavender Heights is a beautiful house with lots of interesting features. Jenny has done a fantastic job with the decor. Our room was full of character, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Her recommendations for places to eat were excellent. We were on a tour of some of the Civil War battlefields and the situation and ambience of Lavender Heights meant we could fully unwind after a hard day on the battlefield! The breakfasts were outstanding reflecting Jenny's high standards and attention to detail.

Room Tip: No problem with any of the rooms

we spent the night at Lavender Heights last week to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. Just want to say that we had a lovely time. Jenny is the perfect host and made us feel so welcome. The house Is beautifully decorated and all the rooms are lovely. Our room was quite comfortable, the bed slept wonderfully. Lots of nice extras in all rooms. This is a really nice property and the entire outside is really nice as well. We walked all around outside and really enjoyed the grounds. And for those who want a little history there is even a small cemetery in the back of the grounds. Also, the breakfast that Jenny served was delicious. If you want a really nice place to stay this is it! We will definitely go back for another visit!

Room Tip: all the rooms are really nice

Found Lavender Heights on the Internet and booked because the picture was so appealing. It's the best place to stay in Fredericksburg, convenient to all the attractions and such a lovely locale. The house and grounds are gorgeous and at the same time filled with interesting stories. We found a new friend in innkeeper Jenny Holbert with many interests in common such as gardening and cooking. The Ellie suite was marvelously comfortable and Jenny's breakfasts were awesome. She provided much helpful advice in navigating around the area. Lavender Heights is at the top of our list for our next trip back to Fredericksburg!

My husband and I stayed in the Ellie suite for his birthday weekend. It was so comfortable and relaxing. Jenny Holbert, the owner of this beautiful home, made us feel welcomed immediately!
The property is beautifully landscaped and fun to explore. The breakfasts were outstanding! Jenny gave us great suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing. We didn't want to leave!

Warm and welcoming, with a lovely home and garden, Lavender Heights is an outstanding B & B.
We enjoyed personal attention and lovely home cooked breakfasts with lots more than we could possibly eat. The bedrooms are spacious and beautifully furnished with super comfortable beds. Jenny, the innkeeper has a wealth of local knowledge and could not do enough to help us and made our 3 day stay really enjoyable.
The town of Fredericksburg is very quaint and has lots of small boutique shops and good restaurants. We were exploring the Civil War and found a lot to interest us around there. We recommend the home of Mary Washington to visit, but in the wider area there are lots of historical mansions, including Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington.

Room Tip: The Shannaberry suite has both bathtub and shower and lots of space.

Thank you for your kind words and I was thrilled to have you stay at Lavender Heights--my first guests from across the pond! It was a lot of fun speaking the same language and still going "huh?" And thanks for the comments about all the variety of things to do in the Fredericksburg area. Cheers!

We had intended to stay here one night, but circumstances led us to be there for two. Would have been perfectly comfortable if it had been a week.
Lavender Heights is run by Col. Jenny Holbert, USMC Ret. and out of the dozens and dozens of B&Bs we've stayed in, it was hands down, the best. Jenny has decorated the house with love and a great sense of light and color -- it's just a delightful space to be in. Furnishings are in brand-new condition.
We stayed in the king bed room on the main floor -- spacious, clean, fresh, great natural light, huge bathroom, great bed.
Jenny is an accomplished cook -- way too much food, but delicious. She is a fun, smart, engaged, interesting person -- we spent more time chatting with her than with our last 20 hosts combined.
Huge yard, quiet street. Easy (by car) access to downtown restaurant district.
A delightful experience

I don't usually take the time to review our travel experiences, unless of course it is REALLY above the mark or really below the mark. We don't usually get the extremes so all others are typically somewhere in the middle. Lavender Heights is without a doubt an extreme to "excellent" that deserves mention. Lavender Heights is not just a job or an income to Jenny, the host. It is a combination of her caring for comforts without pretention, her passion to make her home/yard warm and welcoming, and her easy going, intelligent demeanor that made our stay better than any other b and b we have visited, and we have visited a lot. The home is decorated with a lot of "love." The combination of family relics and decor obtained from her travels-about is stylishly combined to create a very comfortable and elegant environment. The bed, linens (including bathrobes) and space was top notch and selected for pure comfort. The breakfast was the best with much thought and creativity put into the desires of the guest. Baked French toast, fruit bowls, omelets, bacon, scrambled eggs and sides were all pleasantly flavored with spices, herbs and local sourcing. She was kind enough to share a glass of wine with us upon arrival as we chatted about the many stops along our battlefield tours.

Since we share some Midwestern roots, perhaps the simple pleasures of a lovely home and gracious host (without being too attentive, as can happen with b&b's) are common values. But it all sure made for a terrific stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in Ellie's Suite but saw all the rooms and they are great!

I am humbled by your gracious comments and know that perhaps Midwestern roots do count for something! You both remind me why a phrase sits above a doorway--"May those who enter as guests, leave as friends."
