“Just like the others!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Place was packed with a good crowd at the bar. Excellent selection of beers and above average food. Slight walk from public parking if you can't find a place on the street.

“Second Time, Not Really a Charm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

My first visit to CAH was in the first month following their opening in Fredericksburg. My husband went crazy for the beer menu! The bartender was friendly, knowledgable and made great suggestions. The food that evening (lite fare at the bar) was really delicious and served hot.
This evening, following a cross country flight and a perilous 1.5 hour drive down the 95, I headed straight to the Capitol Ale House before checking into my hotel. The hostess was very attentive, I was seated within 30 seconds of my arrival. I was solo this time around, so I asked for a table. The menu hadn't changed much, if at all, in the 3.5 years between visits. The waiter appeared within minutes for my drink order which was delivered equally fast. I waited 10 minutes after that for my dinner order to be taken. I ordered the baked chicken wings with cider- mahogany sauce and a Vegetable Brucetta sandwich.

Sauce on the wings was delicious but the wings themselves were under-cooked. Flabby skinned wings are just gross, and these needed at least another 5 mins under a broiler. The sandwich was packed with grilled portobello, squash, and eggplant. The goat cheese sprinkled on top was like butter and very rich in flavor. Really satisfying.

Biggest fault was with the service. No place setting on the table when my appetizer was delivered and had to flag down a server to get it. Sandwich delivered and had to again flag down someone else for ketchup. Drink never refreshed or offered.

I saw groups of all ages in the dining area and also at the bar. This is a place that would be equally appropriate for hanging out with friends or dinner out with visiting family. Hope the kitchen ups their game and the waitstaff regains their former level of service excellence.

“Afterwork, mid week madhouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

This place is packed all the time it seems. The food is good, the beers are very good. I was impressed with the service. Even though they were packed with a wait, the staff was efficient and kept things moving. The crowd is very diverse from government employees to college kids to families.

“St. Patty's Day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Fun bar right downtown. TONS of beer options, and a surprisingly good selection of wines by the glass (some local - and yes, Virginia does produce a few good wines). A good St. Patty's Day crowd, a good mix of ages but a fairly young crowd around the bar. They had a Bagpipe band come in and march thru the bar which was really cool. Bartenders were very attentive even though they were fairly busy...bar was well staffed. Looked like typical bar food coming out, but we did not eat here.
