“Overgrown, moldy, and uncomfortable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

I bought a weekend trip here for my parents as a gift. They were very disappointed with the appearance of the "Inn" - they showed me pictures and it was very overgrown and run-down. The room was very musty, dusty, and smelled like mold. I had paid extra to get them the King-sized bed - they said while the bed was very large, it was very uncomfortable. Whomever I spoke with when making the reservation should have tipped me off on the quality of the "Inn" because they were very confused and unprofessional and kept making mistakes about what I was requesting. I'm very embarrassed that I gave a stay here as a gift. :(

This past weekend, my husband and I visited the Inn after purchasing a Living Social deal a long time ago. Upon arriving, we were immediately struck by how friendly, warm, and welcoming the staff is at the Inn. Our room was adorable and we immediately knew we had found a place that we are likely to return to again and again. It's perfectly situated near downtown without being in the middle of all the noise - we can't wait to go back one day!

We had our wedding here the mill is a very nice place. To start off we booked the honeymoon king suite in Jan. the bridle party was going to get ready in there but once we got there it wasn't available so we got stuck in a small single room and never got credited for it. The wedding cordinator lacks communication and misleads you to sign the contract and then all rules change closer to the event. We purhased over 40 bottles of alcohol for the open bar and had a lot left over at the end of the night some bottles wheren't even opened, we where told to pick it up in the morning so we didn't have to clean up that night, went back the next morning and only found 4 bottles left NO ONE new where the other bottles went to. The owners wheren't there and have still not returned our calls regarding this matter.

My daughter booked her wedding at the Inn before the Silk Mill was remodeled. The windows were broken, holes in the floor, etc. The plans for the renovation were explained to us and the feel of the Inn was just right. We followed the progress of the renovation and all was completed as promised. We booked the Inn from a Friday to Sunday so we could have a relaxed weekend getaway wedding.

Our vendors all loved the location and found the staff easy to work with. Working with Ed and Anna at the Inn was a pleasure. They helped me and my daughter plan and execute our wedding event. They were onsite and available and jumped in to assist in any way needed. Communication was easy with e-mail and phone messages readily returned. The cost was very reasonable when compared to similar venues.

As people arrived for the wedding they were very pleased with the facility, location and things to do in the area. Because of dark clouds and threatening weather our decision to hold the wedding outside was made 30 minutes before the ceremony was to take place. Ed was outside with us rolling out our runners and anchoring them in place. Anna was right on top of everything as she cued the DJ to change music at the appropriate time. The Silk Mill is large enough that we could have moved everything inside at the last minute if needed.

Because we rented the entire Inn we were able to gather in groups in different locations for wine tasting and board games etc. It was truly like being at home and providing hospitality to our out of town guests. The beds were very comfortable and furnishings quite nice. Rooms didn't have individual temperature controls but that was a minor inconvenience compared to all the pluses the location has to offer. The bricked courtyard and Wakefield conference room which we used for the rehearsal dinner and lunch on the day of the wedding added extra value to the venue.

If you live in the area or want a destination wedding you would be remiss if you don't take time to check out the possibilities and facilities offered at The Inn at the Olde Silk Mill.

My wife and I were looking for a B & B near the annual Renasaince Faire near Lake Anna last weekend. Our "first choices" (where we had stayed previously) were all booked. We then came across the "Inn". A few rooms were still available, and they were much less expensive than the competition...so...how good could they be? GREAT! Neither George Washington nor Robert E. Lee slept there, but does that really matter? The rooms were neat and clean. The furniture was a mixture of authentic and well-matched reproductions. The massive four-poster bed was beautiful, and very comfortable. (best night's sleep I have had in ages). Coffee, tea and cookies are available 24-hours. The continental breakfast was much more varied than we expected...hot and cold cereals, a large variety of bagels, muffins and pastries, fresh fruits and yogurts, were great. The staff was very helpful and informative. Being the ONLY B & B with a vacancy brought us to the "Inn" in the first place. It will be our FIRST CHOICE from now on.

Over-priced and lacking in service. If you enjoy having no control over your aircon (because the control is in the room next door?!) and eating breakfast off disposable plates, stay here.

I want to share my wonderful experience regarding this charming historic Inn. I had my wedding here and it was absolutely amazing. We rented out the entire Inn so friends and family could stay and enjoy themselves. From the very beginning of the planning process right up until the big day the Inns staff was so helpful and friendly. They assisted with last minute tasks to ensure our special day went off without a hitch. The historic Inn is just that historic, so yeah there maybe a little chipping paint but what antique items doesn't show wear after years of use. The Inn and all the splendid antiques is what gives it that wonderful charm we were looking for. The rooms were kept very clean with beautiful linens on the bed. I stayed in different rooms over the course of the weekend and both were great. The beds were very comfortable and the family suites were large enough for a family of four. I would recommend the Inn for a nice weekend getaway or a large extravagant wedding either way I don't think you'd be disappointed.
