“Good value but would not be my first choice for the price”

I spent two nights at the Holiday Inn Brookline:
** Service: perfunctory but fine-had no interactions except at check-in and check-out
** Room: Standard issue HI, bathroom a bit dated but new, plush, bedding. The room overlooked the interior 'atrium' so there was no natural daylight, which was occasionally off putting.
** Location: For someone OK with public transportation, it is fine, right on the Green Line. My business was over at the new convention center, which was about a 45 minute journey with two transfers.
** Food: Didn't eat at the hotel, but tried a Turkish place nearby that was good. Also the sushi place a block away is supposed to be among Boston's best.
** Price: At less than $200, it's hard to beat in this town.
Overall, I would stay there again but - all else equal - I would rather be closer to town.

“Good value in Boston”

This is an old but partially renovated and reasonably priced (for Boston) hotel in a great location. Can walk to small shops, a movie theater, and lots of restaurants around Coolidge Corner. Jae's, a nice Asian restaurant, is right across the street, as is the streetcar. It's a short ride to Fenway Park, the Gardiner Museum, or the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The hotel has underground parking ($15 fee) though we had difficulty squeezing into a tiny space...the last one available. The staff was very efficient and pleasant. Our spacious king size room with renovated bath overlooked the dining area but was quiet and very comfortable (great bed). Aside from the parking issue, the only other downside was the elevator. Seems there's only one and it is very slow. We didn't get to use the pool or fitness area. The breakfast was reasonably priced for the city and offered an extensive buffet as well as ala carte choices. We will definitely stay here again....a good value.

This is like a trip back in time. Incredibly tired and dated architecture and layout. Very dingy and rather grim.

However, very cheap compared to downtown Boston and right by a T station. Also convenient for Coolidge Corner and it's restaurants and bars. This is the only chain hotel in the area but there are many fine B&B's that are better and cheaper !

“Awful conference room”

Holiday Inn Boston Brookline

South Berwick, ME

I did not stay at the Holiday Inn, but rather was there for a week long seminar. The conference room had a musty/moldy odor and several people, including myself, had allergic reactions (sneezing, headaches). The air vents in the ceiling had black stuff around them leading me to think there may be a mold/dust issue. People who were attending this seminar and staying at the hotel reported poor room quality, no wake up calls, and incorrect charges on their bills.

Also, money was stolen from one woman's tote bag. This was a teacher seminar, so although we do not make a lot of money in our profession I think we are an honest lot. Do not leave anything valuable where any staff has access. I know this is a general rule with anything of value, but one would expect that they could leave a tote bag in the room at lunch and not have it searched.

General courtesy is also a huge problem for this hotel. When I called for directions to their parking garage, the person I spoke with was brusque and did not seem to know the area very well. The cleaning staff vacuumed outside our room during our seminar which was distracting, despite the door being closed. The kitchen was adjacent to the room the seminar was held in and on the final day, 11 am seemed to be the arranged start time to move large objects around the kitchen for 2 hours. A complaint was made to the kitchen and then to management.

The nicest staff person I met was a parking attendant.

“Great Staff, Location and Clean Beds, Somewhat Outdated, so what?”

Holiday Inn Boston Brookline

Mar 10, 2008

The staff was great.  They went beyond what I have experienced elsewhere.  All seemed eager to help you.  The Sunday buffet was excellent.  The small lunch/dinner room was warm and comfortable.  The food was good and the bartender/waiter was friendly and very accomodating.  I requested a 2nd floor room.  I loved the corner room viewing the intersection of Beacon and St Paul.  It was pouring rain and I enjoyed having the curtain open and watching the activity below.  Although next time I'll ask for the 3rd floor room directly above.  There was some minor street noise during the middle of the night that I could have done without.  The room might have been outdated, compared to some, but very clean and comfortable.  I loved the location.  I would definetely stay here again.
