“Absolutely lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

This Inn is excellent! The location was absolutely perfect for us - safe neighbourhood, transit very close by, walking distance to stores, restaurants, Fenway park, everything we needed! The amenities were stunning. The inn is charming and cozy. The innkeepers were the best! They could not do enough for us to make sure our experience was top notch. Breakfast was great also. Having access to snacks and beverages 24/7 was an added bonus. We will definitely be back and will recommend to others!

Room Tip: The room we had on the main floor with the fireplace was large, quiet and beautiful.

The Samuel Sewall Inn is a nice alternative to staying in a hotel. My room had great character. A nice place to come back too after a day out. Staff were friendly and helpful. Having a car parking spot was very helpful for the day I had a hire car. 24 hour snacks and coffee was to have. My room didn't have an air conditioner, only a fan. The bed was SO comfortable ;)

If I'm ever in Brookline again, I will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: I was in room 3 on the ground floor.

The staff are very helpful, pleasant, eager to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast was nice, good granola, cereals, home made breads & pastries, fresh fruit, a daily hot entree. Good quality tea and coffee. Snacks available 24 hours. Nice rooms with modern baths, very clean. Just one block to the T station, about 15 minutes to Quincy Market from here, or 3 stops to Fenway Park, which can be walked in less than 30 minutes. Short walk to Coolidge Corners restaurants, shops, etc. An excellent location for parking your car and getting around Boston very conveniently.

Room Tip: We had room #4 which was quite small and adjacent to the parking lot. I'd pick something on t...

Overall, I was very impressed with this B&B. The place is very quaint and filled with antiques. It is a great deal for the price. If you expect modern, updated and comfy you really need to go somewhere else. The staff was very friendly, although we did arrive earlier than checkin and although our room had been vacated and the cleaning staff was there, we did not get into the room for about 5 more hours. The front desk person was very solicitous during that time, but really we just wanted some place to clean up and maybe take a nap. They have a locked room where you can store your luggage in the meantime. The breakfasts were okay. Since it is self serve, you are relegated to waiting to see how much the other guests are cognizant that there are other guests staying and eating there too. We had some okay days and then some really bad days in that regard (people using their hands, not the utensils provided, dropping food in other food, taking something then putting it back, etc.) The indoor parlour is small, but we always took food back to the room and no one said anything. They have a small fridge and fruit and snacks out all day which was really nice. They had umbrellas available for when it rained and they printed out our boarding passes for us. They were quick to give us directions or offer suggestions. You do not really have the abilty to control the temperature in your room. You can open and close vents and windows at will and we had a standing fan in our room, but that is it. They have fireplaces in some of the rooms, but they put away the firewood in April, I think they said and that is it. It is very easy to get to and from the subway and is within walking distance of numerous restaurants. A car is not necessary; which is really nice. They have a fridge for guests which was very convenient. We did have an issue with bugs, some were in the parlour, some were in the room and some got into the food (sorry, just being honest). It is obvious that they did the best they could to avoid the bugs getting into the food, but I am guess that with that much food out all of the time and people accessing it all of the time, it is probably inevitable. The bathroom was small, but well stocked and clean. I would definitely stay there again. I found the place to be quiet, quaint and romantic. It really just depends on what you are looking for.

We loved our three days at the Samuel Sewall. The lovely Victorian house is beautifully decorated with a friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful and we really appreciated that snacks (fruit, granola bars, cookies, drinks) were made available to us 24 hours a day. The location is ideal. It's not only close to all the shopping and eating in Brookline, but it's only a block from the "T', the subway that gets you anywhere you want to go. The only negative was the size of the bathroom. We were in Room 6 which is a nioe size room, but the bathroom was really tiny. I don't know if other rooms there have larger bathrooms. All in all, we would definitely stay here again.

The Samuel Sewall Inn looks more like a B&B than a hotel but it features nice rooms and a great breakfast.

We were in room 10 and that's one of the smallest rooms. Beware of the stairs because it's right beside your room and you will hear people using it at night and in the morning.

The only problem that we had really was the WIFI. It wasn't working properly. It was either very slow or simply didn't work. I asked the person on duty to fix it and they obviously called the service provider to fix it but I think Room 10 doesn't get the signal very well. They can't do much about it really but if I knew that before, I would not have booked that room.

I also read that the breakfast was so-so but honnestly we found it was great. Homemade pastries and good selection of cereals. The only problem is the size of the room where the breakfast is served. Only 3 tables and your need to go outside on the patio if they have been taken already. Or you can go to your room...

This hotel is 3 minutes away from the Green line. (Walking distance) It takes 15 min to reach downtown.

Room Tip: In room 10 WIFI isn't working

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at this hotel and absolutely aspect of it was exceptional. The Inn is located in perhaps the best part of Boston, with convenient access by the "L", which allowed us to get anywhere at virtually any time with two cheap 7 day passes. The setting is quiet, safe, and attractive. Trader Joes very nearby to get food. You have your own fridge for each floor to store anything you buy, which was convenient.
There is a nice patio area on the side of the hotel with umbrellas. Lovely place to sit out on a Summer night. Any staff that were smoking out on the patio were very polite and gave us the whole space.
The staff on the whole were helpful, courteous, generous and pleasant. On our arrival, the host, Astrid, was there to help us settle in, give us directions, advice for local restaurants. Prior to staying here, she and the rest of the staff were also helpful in communicating with us and answering questions. No surprises or exorbatant prices. Great value for everything, Fresh cookies, water, and snacks available every day- all delicious. The room service was excellent, including the weather report for the day. Plenty of newspapers available in the morning. Breakfast was very good quality, plenty of it, and included options for people who may not want to eat meat. Rooms are warm, cosy, intimate. Bathrooms are well supplied.
I don't believe there was a single negative side to staying here. Thank you very much for providing such great accommodation. My girlfriend and I will be sure to stay again some time soon!

Room Tip: Any rooms available are high standard.
