“Good bistro/gastro pub (UK context)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014 via mobile

Didn't bother with starters (appetisers) as have learnt my lesson! (In other words, if you are from Europe, and you want to enjoy your main course, forget anything that comes beforehand!) The pan roasted skate (ray) wing is excellent, as was the daily special - pecan-crusted trout, and I highly recommend having a few desserts and sharing!

“Cozy...Expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

I came here with my boyfriend and a friend during restaurant week. I ordered the arugula salad to start, and they ordered the butternut squash soup. The salad was pretty good overall, whereas the soup was tasty but came in a very small bowl (restaurant week?!).

For our main entree we ordered 1 each of the 3 available options: the pasta dish, the chicken, and the short ribs. The pasta was good, but nothing extraordinary. The short ribs were done well, except the sides that it was served with made it kind of a mushy plate. My friend enjoyed the chicken and it was the largest of the 3 dishes--my boyfriend and I were envious of his large portion.

We weren't that excited about the dessert options: peanut butter cheesecake or the poached pear and toasted almond tart served with ginger ice cream. I wasn't crazy about the tart, whereas the peanut butter cheesecake was okay.

Overall, the atmosphere of this place is pretty nice, but the food isn't that amazing. I wasn't wowed enough to want to come back for a second try.

“Great food, service, atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

My wife and I happened to be in Brookline and stopped in having read about the restaurant scene in Washington Square. Despite not having reservations we were seated immediately. Nicole was personable and efficient as a server. The martinis were delicious, and the burgers….ahhhhh….let's just say my wife (who never finishes hers) made this an exception! We did not have room for dessert, but plan on returning….great stuff!
