This was our third stay at the Bertram Inn--but it surely will not be our last. Though we found the Inn on a site for lodging near the Beth Israel Health Care Complex and were traveling down from Vermont for medical purposes and had no idea exactly what to expect, we were astounded by the ambience of this little inn. A fireplace, delicious, healthful snacks, and a warm welcome awaited us as we drove through an ice storm for our first stay back in December. Our room was lovely, our mattress one of the latest models and ever so comfortable, and our bath was well appointed.
Breakfast is served early for those who need to be out and about--again, healthy foods and beverages--dried fruits, nuts, scones, and other fine fare, along with delicious fresh-baked extras (including quiche on one visit) for those who can linger and enjoy the hot dishes offered after 8 a.m. or so.
We have stayed in many New England inns and bed & breakfast establishments, and I must say the Bertram is at the top of our list. We felt like we'd had a vacation--despite our reason for being there in December, January, and March. As I wrote to the innkeeper upon our return home in March:
Once more you opened the inn and your hearts to us, making us feel warm and welcome. There is likely as much "healing" in spending a night and morning at the Bertram Inn as there is in visiting the physicians at the Beth Israel complex.
Here's hoping we have a chance to go down to Boston for fun reasons--for the inn is close enough to mass transit to allow us to get most anyplace we need to go--and we can't imagine there's a more relaxing and comfortable and affordable establishment in the Cambridge/Brookline area!
My husband and I stayed at this B&B for 4 nights. I picked this B&B because it was close to the hospital and we needed to be at the hospital for 4 days. It’s within walking distance. The staff was excellent; they helped recommend good restaurants to eat at and gave us detailed directions on how to get there. Everything was within walking distance. The room was excellent, wonderful bedding, firm mattress. We do not travel to Boston alot, but if we do we will defiantly go back. The breakfast was great, I just can’t say enough. This inn VERY COZY and they made us feel right at home. We visited with other guest and they were just as happy. GREAT price and 10 times better then any holiday inn.
we stayed here for 3 nights.
very nice staff, real friendly, great breakfast and snacks:)
Room 12 is not worth the money, though, in our opinion.
Paint is coming a bit of the wall, the lamp in the bathroom hung out (has to be fixed, i always thought it would crush on my head as i stood by the sink), the whole room seems to need a bit of restauration.
The information book in the room about the Inn is not up to date, the announced comment sheet was missing.
Wirless did not work constantly, which was a bit of a hassle for us as we need it for business.
i am a travel agent and recently had the pleasure of staying at the Bertram /Samuel Sewell Inn in Brookline MA. this inn was meticulously kept, beautifully decorated, and the breakfast and snacks were delicious.the staff was attentive, pleasant, and went above and beyond to help with any request.we have stayed at hotels but this B&B was a much better value by far. i would highly recommend staying here.
