“Warm in every way!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Lovely old world charm and warmth about this place. My daughter and I had a very comfortable large room which was clean. We found it easy to get about Boston from here and found good local shops and restaurants too. The staff were helpful but it was Rhonda that made our stay very easy from the point of view of finding our way around and organizing tickets - we are hugely grateful to her for all her help and time. And, a huge thanks too to one of their long term guests who invited us to stay there and added all the finishing touches to make our stay extra special.

Room Tip: We had a large room on the top floor with 2 double beds so plenty of space.

Service staff just excellent. Cannot wait to return. We were at a wedding at this beautiful castle and it was just outstanding. The decor is just charming and all the staff is just charming. Will return to this venue soon again. Thank you to all who took care of us.

We found this reasonably priced hotel in the outskirts of Boston and were enticed by it's character and charm. It is a recently restored home built about 100 years ago, and I understand it was residence for the same family (name) until just a few years ago. What we found was in nicely restored condition. No 'old' smells from the furniture or walls. Although from the picture alone you might think the Longwood Inn is a B&B, it is not, with no food provided. No matter, there are plenty of restaurants in short walking distance, with a bagel chain only two blocks away.

Our particular room (21) was very spacious as you can see from the photos. It was set up to sleep as many as four. We do not think the fireplace is usable, but when heat is needed the room is equipped with unobtrusive electric wall heaters via thermostat. NO airconditioning. The bathroom is very new with granite (I think) counter and all new bathroom fixtures. Modern (3-prong) power outlets were plentiful in the BR and BA. A good but smallish LCD TV was mounted on the wall and worked OK although I don't think anything came in high definition. The Wi-Fi service was OK, but we found another stonger open SSID that was much better; good enough for Netflix streaming.

The staff was only guaranteed to be there 8-5, but in fact was present just about all the time (but NOT like a regular hotel). As a result we never found the front door to be locked in off-hours. The staff was very helpful and responsive at all times.
They provide a "fully equiped" kitchen for the use of the guests, and we did. Appliances were new and fully functional. Coffee was available every morning, although you might have to make the next pot. However, the refridgerator was nearly full and we had to scrounge for the little space we needed. I think the issue was that some of the staff was in residence, and some of the guests were long-term (weeks), and cooking most meals there. Nevertheless we were able to make breakfast for ourselves (4) every morning without to much hassle.

Now for the negatives. Our friends were not so lucky with their room (34). It was perhaps 1/2 the size of ours, BR and BA alike. They were not able to get enough air into the room to sleep comfortably at night. By contrast, we just needed to open our window(s) to get plenty of cool air when needed. But that brings us to another negative; our bedroom faced the street and the road noise at night was pretty high even with the windows closed. It was all residential traffic, but you have to understand that the whole Boston area is very dense, so there is plenty of it.

In summary, our experience was quite possitive (hence the Very Good rating), but our friends would no doubt rate the room Average or even Poor. So if you want the same experience we had, ask for room 21 or similar, and avoid the third floor rooms. There are two first floor bedrooms that open off of the main room, due to guest traffic and other noise, I would avoid them too.

After spending way too much for a hotel far away from BU, I wanted to be close to my daughter. This inn is modest, but beautiful in a lovely neighborhood. It is not elegant, but clean and unique. Great old wood, lovely sitting areas and small but adequate rooms. The price is right!

The room was small but adequate, particularly for the low price. There is a kitchen available - no other food service. Within walking distance of Trader Joe's, restaurants, T. NO ELEVATOR, NARROW STAIRS TO 3RD FLOOR, which was where we were. Ice, vending was 4 floors below us. All-in-all a fine place for the very self-sufficient traveler.

Room Tip: No elevators, so from basement parking to 3rd floor is 4 flights.

The Longwood Inn was great. We were in town to go to a show at the Agganis arena, about a 15 walk. The staff was polite and helpful. The Inn was clean and the common spaces large. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck while eating our lunch.
The room was of ample size as was the bathroom. Nothing fancy but the bathroom did have a small marble counter and was very well cleaned. I would stay here again and or recommend it to a friend.

Room Tip: We were in room 23 with private bath and window facing the large town park behind the inn. There wa...
