This place is out of the way. There are several turns off the main road and each road was narrower than the prior. Lots of kicked-up rocks and gravel, but it was a rental car, so no big deal. It took us 20-30 minutes out of our way and we spent less than 30 minutes there.
The visitor center is nice and well-kept. The exhibits are attractive and informative, but there is only so much you can say about fish fossils without getting repetitive. We did not watch the film since there was a large schoolgroup inside and there was no more room.
The day was beautiful and the scenery is interesting. Wifey and I did not go hiking but there was a few miles available.
