Having just moved to Vancouver, I was checking out the places to eat when we discovered this place by accident. I was not surprised to see it rated #4 on TripAdvisor afterwards.
I've been to several "Mongolian BBQ" type restaurants in different towns and cities but I have to say that the Golden Tent is the best one yet. Some of the drawbacks to this type of eatery include how messy and almost unsanitary the food cases can get, especially when a crowd rolls through. Besides being unappetizing, these days - you have to worry about health as well.
But the staff here works hard to keep the food areas very clean and well stocked with fresh ingredients. I saw them remove nearly a full tray of spinach that obviously had been there too long and replace it with a fresh batch - this is something you don't often see in these types of places.
The "make your own sauce" bar is a great take on the standard Mongolian BBQ setup with clearly marked instructions and suggestions on hot and mild variations. The addition of chicken wings, fried rice and a few other dishes buffet style is a nice touch and gives even more variety if you have picky eaters in your bunch.
I have to say one of the best features is having a lounge/bar attached. The drinks are good, inexpensive and great to have if you would like to enjoy a cocktail with or after dinner. We found the servers to be efficient, fast and friendly as well.
This place is great for a family, group of friends or just one or two people looking for something inexpensive, fun and with a variety of choices.
Easily located off 205 as well.
