“Pricey, good date night place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

Very tasty dishes but not like the food I've had in Hawaii much. Our family goes on rare occasions because the cost is so high but it is a great date night spot. You can sit in the lounge and listen to music or in a quieter dining room. Atmosphere is great. service is great.

“Uneven”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

Had dinner at the restaurant which is on the corner. Some reviews here are for the bar which is next door and has its own separate entrance further up the street. That is where the jazz scene takes place. It is likely the same kitchen supplies both venues.

We arrived about 7pm on a Thursday and were greeted by the single server working. She was very pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating concerning our questions regarding items on the menu. The lighting was turned way down which made it very difficult to read the menu which has fine print (as opposed to bold) on a yellow background. We used the table candle a bit and then asked for the lights to be turned up, which the server did. About 10 more watts! Only two other tables had patrons so unless they were wearing night vision goggles and would be blinded, the lights could have been much brighter.

Most of the offerings have odd slash marks next to the prices, which you can decipher for yourself, or ask what they mean. Some of them indicate that you may have a smaller portion than "normal" and the pricing is adjusted accordingly. Each person ordered a different entree. For the person that ordered a "smaller" meal, the plate size is smaller so that the serving appears larger.. pretty clever Tommy O. The chicken on that plate could be covered with a dollar bill folded in half.. pretty small. Better to order the normal size and take half home than to pay for half a meal that is quite small.

The Kahlua pulled pork on my plate was horribly salty, but a large portion and no fat. I would have gone another star on this review except for that. The noodles were cool instead of hot, and the stir fry vegetables were more likely either steamed or boiled. They were certainly not stir fried.

The two drinks we ordered were short on alcohol, long on ice.

The menu pricing here would lead you to expect a great deal more - unfortunately they didn't deliver on that. The server was very good in all that she did, however, the house was essentially empty so good service would be easy to provide.

Leaving the restaurant and walking up the sidewalk past the entrance door to the bar / lounge we saw a gentleman with a penlight trying to read his menu!
