I have to admit that Beaches has been our "go to" choice for our out of town guests. Especially those from land locked states. The location on the river is lovely and sitting watching the sailboats go by is tranquil. In the warm, drier months, the outside dining option is a plus. It just occurred to us recently that we should head over there for dinner, just my hubby and me, sans guests.
Beaches never fails to have the best food, ambiance and service. In fact, if you have a special occasion, they will print up a personalized menu with a Happy Birthday/Anniversary or just Welcome to Vancouver, which our friends always enjoy. From the beautiful seagrass landscaping out front and bikes you can borrow to ride the riverfront trail, to the ocean themed decor, Beaches gets it right. I usually focus on the seafood offerings. Their chowder is excellent as are their seafood dishes. The other evening my husband and I both ordered the British Columbia Salmon. Mine with a Thai chili sauce and his with a basil butter sauce. We split them and they were each so juicy and delicious. The accompanying garlic whipped potatoes are always so yummy as is their house bread. My spinach, goat cheese, cranberry and apple salad was perfect with a balsamic dressing. The dessert list is always tempting and this time we didn't resist. We shared a generous sized slice of their Key Lime Pie and it was a perfect balance of sweet and tart. The wine offerings are very ample as are their mixed drinks. The service is always excellent. Even though we were there after sundown and couldn't watch any sailboats, the lights on the water were still lovely. Kudos to the owner, too, who is heavily involved in local philanthropies. I can't say enough about Beaches. There is something for everyone here, from seafood to burgers, pizza to meatloaf. We have never had anything but a super time here over the last ten years.
