I had the pleasure of staying at the Red Lion at the Quay when attending a convention in Vancouver, WA and the convention hotel, the Hilton, was fully booked. The rate I found on the Red Lion website was 1/2 of that for the Hilton, allowing me to spend the same for 2 nights as I would have for a single night at the conference hotel. The Red Lion is a short walk from the Hilton (parking at the Hilton is more restricted, and overflow is directed to a paid, public lot) which made for a pleasant stroll.
Getting to the Red Lion was easy; downtown Vancouver is reasonably small, and easy to make you way around. Pulling into the facility, it certainly shows its construction age (likely the 70s or 80's) The front desk was courteous and quick; they were able to accommodate an early registration without any fuss. Parking is free and plentiful.
The facility is shaped like a 'C', with one wing easier accessed by walking outside than around -- it's a covered walkway, so no issues when the rains arrive in the northwest!
The room was clean, but simple, with 2 full beds, a television (older, CRT style), a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker. The bathroom is clean, updated. It had a full set of towels and toiletries. The water in the shower was hot; the shower head is a conservation head, but provided adequate pressure. The head did have some mineral deposits in the nozzles, so some of the nozzles shot water out in random directions, leading to some water on the bathroom floor (yay for extra towels!) Red Lion participates in a water conservation program, so leaving towels hung on the rack keeps them around for an extra day.
The desk has one electrical outlet in the base of the lamp, useful for laptops, cell chargers. No additional available outlets were visible near the beds.
The hotel is near a rail line and on a landing approach to PDX; both can be heard. I had no issues with sleeping through the night, but travelers may keep that in mind.
All-in-all, I am pleased with my experience. I would recommend the hotel to others who want a few nights in a clean facility at a good price.
