“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

The Village is in need of serious repairs. At least four of the structures were "condemned" and were not accessible for visiting.

“Definitely needs a makeover”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

This poor little old historic village is in a sorry state. It could be really nice if it was taken care of. Lots of interesting history and information about the Erie canal. The structures are all in violation so the town code enrocement won't let the visitors go
inside most of the buildings because they are too dangerous. What a shame because it could be a mini Williamsburg.
And the biggest joke was the train ride. It' s a stupid little train that runs back and fort through the swamp for 25 minutes. A big waste of money and time. The owner should take some pride in this place and fix it up or it will be run into the ground soon.

“Sorry to say, but this is not worth the time or money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

This village has potential, but it needs lots of TLC. The history is great, the boat ride down the canal fun...but I think they could do so much more and the place needs a face-lift. However, on the grounds is a great little museum that honors the local athletes, the Rome Sports Hall of Fame. For a small town, it was surprising how many nationally known athletes came from there.

“Needs more upkeep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Was very excited to learn about local history. Wasnt disappointed, however, found the village to be unkept. Used their picnic area before entering village-lawn wasn't mowed had to track through thick grass wasn't sure if this was the spot we were supposed to use for our picnic or not. Windows on museum buildings were dirty, floors needed to be swept and buildings needed to be repaired. Felt there is a lot of local history to be learned and this village just doesn't represent it very well.

“"Eerie" canal experience...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

Very dissapointing. This run down village is in need of serious attention before it vanishes totally. Lots worth keeping but almost too late. Seriously, who is running this place? Rotten porch boards, musty buildings, unkept grounds... A lot of important history being lost here - where's the local historical society?
