My 2 children, mother and I stayed in this room on our GS troop's trip to Savannah, so we were pretty much stuck here. In our first room, my daughters discovered a pair of shoes under a chair and a few minutes later, vomit down the side of the bed skirt, on the free standing lamp next to the bed and on the floor. The toilet wouldn't flush either. The vomit had obviously been there for some time. We complained and were switched to another room.
The room was dirty, the bathroom totally gross, the floor was filthy especially behind the door where you "can't see" unless you actually close the door. There was mildew on the shower curtain and ceiling, and the tub was slow draining. A candy wrapper was under the same chair where in the other room we found the shoes. It stayed there for two days until I kicked it out the door into the breeze way. Some kind of lotion was sqeezed onto the bedskirt and not wiped off. Pretty gross.
We asked for a roll away bed for one of the rooms, and were refused. Our GS leader insisted since they advertise that on the website, without any mention of restriction as to what room you are staying in, and they finally relented and sent one up and abandoned it by the elevator. My daughters rolled it the rest of the way to the other room!
The room was cool but wet the entire time. Even our unpacked clothes were wet and the bed linens. Work needs to be done on the air conditioner both in the rooms and in the are where all the people staying area supposed to cram in to eat the other wise excellent continental breakfast.
I was given extra linens when I asked for them.
Two smokers in our group were instructed to smoke only in an area by the elevator to smoke, next to an overflowing garbage can that was not emptied once during our 5 day stay, but workers at the hotel smoked right in front of the rooms. A man painting in front of our rooms smoked continuously, and a man putting newspapers on the doors also smoked.
The night security guard, Julius, was a very sweet and friendly man, who offered to help our group (many children) one night when we arrived in late from a long day. Very nice. Highlight of our hotel stay, and he didn't work directly for Marriott either.
The night before we left I found a wet, dirty bath mat balled up and thrown on my mom's suitcase in our room. I complained about everything the next morning. Even the pens in the room didn't work! I am writing a letter of complaint to Marriott. They should be embarrassed to have their name attached to such a crummy and dirty hotel.
I would warn all other families and Girl Scout Troops to stay away from this property. It claims to be newly renovated, but that simply cannot be true, unless you count the crummy paint job. This place is filthy and needs to be overhauled, as well as new housekeeping staff hired, possibly new management, since they didn't seem that concerned the morning we left and I told them about the nasty bath mat. As I got on the elevator to go back up to my room for the last time, a man also staying in the hotel jumped on and asked me what we had expected when we got the rooms. I told him a clean and decent room, which we didn't get. He expressed his own disappointment in the rooms as well, and that they also told him they couldn't have a rollaway bed.
