“great hotel but far from Historic District”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2007

Stayed one night as part of trip to drop son at SCAD. Have stayed at various hotels in Historic District but for one night usually try different hotels in Midtown area. Had a little difficulty finding hotel even though it is on Abercorn - much farther from Historic District than I had expected - for those familiar with area it is miles past Mall area with its many hotels. But hotel itself was wonderful. Huge one-room semi-suite with 2 double beds, separate sitting area with sofa bed, kitchenette, separate dining alcove. Breakfast included - usual continental breakfast items plus eggs, sausages and waffle maker. Would be great place for family or for someone on longer stay as long as one realizes it is quite a way from Historic District.

Several issues: bathroom was not clean, specificaly there were urine spots on the toilet seat and bar soap residue in the shower. The hotel is smoke free now, but the room smelled like it had been a smoking room in the recent past. The air conditioner blew directly on the bed and the vents were not adjustable. And finally, the curtains were only sheers and the morning sun was blarring, not fun as we did not even check in until midnight. Not to be one sided, the staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet was well stocked. Even with a AAA rate, it was over priced. There are too many hotels in Savannah to waste another day or dollar here.

We recently stayed at the Springhill Suites while attending a class at Armstrong State College. The hotel was incredibly clean and the staff was very nice. We would absolutely stay there again! And Olive Garden is within yards of the hotel. What a plus!

On a weekend when it seemed that every other hotel in the Savannah area was booked, we were able to secure accommodations at the Springhill Suites at a very good price. Very nice standard hotel with an incredibly friendly staff. The "suite" itself was more of an efficiency room, but no complaints. It held three people quite comfortably (2 on the king bed and one on the pull-out sofa). A nice little upgrade from your standard hotel room.

There were 3 charter buses of children staying at the hotel; either these were the best behaved children in the world or the SpringHill Suites is incredibly sound-proof. We didn't hear a peep!

The buffet was probably the best continental buffet I've seen in some time - biscuits and gravy, oatmeal and waffles in addition to the standard fare.

All in all a pretty nice hotel - about 10 minutes from the historic area!

I was pleasantly suprised with this hotel. We arrived 2 hours earlier than check in and the staff was very accomodating in getting us a room early. The room was clean and I was giddy to find that there were 2 TVs. One for the adults where the beds were located and a TV where the pull out sofa was so the kids could watch what they wanted to. We had a small kitchen with microwave, small fridge and sink. The hotel was very quiet, we never heard our neighbors coming or going. The breakfast was also a nice surprise. They had something for everyone, fruit, cereal, sausage, eggs, grits, oatmeal and a waffle maker. There are also several fast food and nice restaurants right outside the hotel. I would definately recommend this hotel.

  • Liked — Nothing went wrong. The staff was friendly. There were no hassels.
  • Disliked — There was a drive to get to downtown Savannah (about 10 mins).

We stayed here during Spring Break 2007. Not the best location for access to downtown Savannah or Tybee Island. Breakfast buffet was okay, not great. Easy access to restaurants and stores, and the interstate. It would be a good choice if your destination is close by, but not a good choice to seeing the Savannah sites. Pool was pretty small, but room was clean. Do take time to go out to Tybee Island - beautiful, and be sure and include The Crab Shack!

My wife and I took a 2 day side trip to Savannah on our way to Orlando. We booked this room based on other reviews through TripAdvisor. The overall experience was very good. Staff very helpful and courteous. Loved the restaurant discount coupons that were available for the asking. My only negative reaction to this hotel was that walls between the rooms are paper-thin. The guest in the room next to ours was on the phone alot, and we could hear every word he spoke. While I would not hesitate to stay here again, if there is a future visit to Savannah in our leisure travel future, I would prefer to stay downtown to better experience this beautiful city's historic charm.
