“GREAT location, and it's a Marriott all the way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Hosted a business meeting here and stayed an extra days since we were already here. It's a couple of blocks outside the heart of the tourist zone, but it's right on the river and, at least for me, well worth the extra two or three minute walk.

A couple of little downsides: it's at the very end of the tourist district, so it will take a few extra minutes to get to the heart of downtown. Great walk on the river, but still an extra few minutes. They charge to park. And internet is not free. And they have foam in room coffee cups. Too expensive not to have a real coffee cup. But, all in all, that's not a very long list of dings.

But, it's what I want in a hotel. Room was clean, spacious, well done, and well serviced, with a great view of the river (most every room has a view). Lots of hot water with great water pressure. Great internet coverage... never lost a signal. Good AC which comes on and stays on (none of that motion detector turned it off waking up covered in sweat in the middle of the night junk here) And the best hotel bed I've slept on in years. Not sure why, but it was a GREAT bed. Much of the parking lot is in a covered garage. Staff was very friendly and quite helpful. It's actually a quite attractive hotel with lots of big, soaring public space.

Sure, the facade is not "historic", but neither are the beds and plumbing. I'll take ample hot water and big fluffy bed over historic facade any day of the week.

Business meeting went well too. They beat the price of several non-Marriott hotels. Everything was set up properly and they did a good job with it.

It's really worth the couple of blocks it takes to get into the middle of the tourist district to stay at a real Marriott.

Room Tip: Many face the river, and those which do have fabulous views.

We stayed at this hotel this past weekend on our trip to Savannah. There were no more riverfront rooms available, but they did put us in an atrium facing room with a balcony that could see the river through the huge windows in the atrium. That was the next best thing to a river view room. The beds were VERY comfortable and clean. The pillows and comforters very clean and cozy. I didn't want to get out of my bed while I was there! The bathroom was spacious and it had a nice size shower/tub with the usual trial size soaps/shampoos. The room was decorated very nicely, with several lamps for lighting, a nice desk, a nice dresser with a flat screen TV. The room we stayed in did not have a refrigerator but the other party we were traveling with had one in their room, I guess they don't come in all rooms. The hotel is right on the river, they have a nice patio area along the river with tables if you just want to sit and enjoy the scenery. It has its own walk way to get to River Street, which was nice! I would definitely stay in this hotel again. The service at the front desk was very nice and helpful.

Great views, spacious atrium and good bar service. The hotel is probably the largest on the Savanna side of the river. Great front desk staff, Great bar and restaurant staff. Rooms are Marriott Clean and standard, no complaints there.
May only issue was with breakfast, I ordered off the menu instead of the buffet. Usually this provides a local selection not available on the buffet. I was unimpressed. The buffet looked much better.
Aside from that you are walking distance to River street and that is a happening area.

Room Tip: Facing the river or into the atrium.

Had a reservation (held by a credit card) but upon arrival was told that my room had been given to someone else AND there were no other rooms available! Not what you want to hear at 3 am (having just worked a 16 hour day followed by 8 hours of driving to get there).

Room Tip: Do NOT Reserve here---you may not have a room upon arrival.

The Marriott Savannah Riverfront is a nice place to stay downtown without feeling like you are downtown. The hotel was clean and fresh. Parking was ample (but there is an extra charge to park).

The front desk staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was clean, spacious and had a great view of the Savannah River.

The indoor pool is very large and the atrium area (which surrounds the pool and conference area is open, spacious with massive glass windows showing off that beautiful view of the river). The upstairs concierge lounge had a decent selection, was clean and appeared to be well run (also with a great view)

Solid value for the price (except for the parking) but well worth the 10 minute or so drive from I95 as it's better than any of those interstte hotels. Glad we stopped here.

Room Tip: Suggest a river facing room if you can get one.

Walking distance to River Street. On the River. Upscale feel for a very reasonable price.
We stayed here the Friday after Thanksgiving and would recommend this property. Bed was clean and comfortable.

We could not get the room as cold as we would have liked it at night but others in our group said there thermostats worked great.

Room Tip: We had a non-riverfront room and still had a partial river view through the atrium. Room 608.

Be aware that this hotel charges an additional dollar for an "occupancy fee", which seems a little ridiculous. That should be included in the rate. I usually wouldn't mind, but when schools issue checks for tax exempt rooms, this hidden fee has to come out of the employee's pocket. This is the only hotel that has given us this problem.
